Hi,

Ive been taking propecia for 3 years now. First started with 1mg then for two years I took a half dose of 0.5mg. It has been maintaining my hair fine. I have been reading about the possiblity of finasteride limiting gains in the gym and fatloss in men and want to see if there is any realtionship. I might go down to a 1/4 propecia which is 0.25mgs daily.

I was wondering 'has anyone been on this low dose and have seen results?'

I am hoping lowering the dose dosent cause a shed. I might start using spironolactone when i make the transition to 0.25mgs.

Any info apprreciated

I've been on 0.25mg EOD since the beginning of Feb. I've had some regrowth since this but it's due to the foam/DNC most likely rather than the finasteride.

well iv been maintaining with 0.5mg and have read the studies saying that a little as 0.2mg is effective. i was just wondering if anyone has been using that dosage. I am going to start 0,25mg and see if anything changes.

If you're maintaining fine at your current dose, why take the risk of not maintaining with a lower dose?

Yeah...the studies show that .2 mg is only about 80% as effective as 1mg and does not inhibit as much DHT. I don't think it's a very good idea to drop your dosage any further. That low of a dose may be effective for someone who has never used finasteride before, but I don't think it will maintain what you've achieved already with 1 and .5 mg. (I think .5 mg is probably very close if not just as effective as 1mg)

That would seem logical, that it's probably better off for the individual who STARTS on the microdosing rather than someone who starts high and then lowers. Though logic doesn't always apply to science so who knows?

Actually, based on the finmicro.pdf document (finmicro.pdf - Available off the research section of the home page menu), the % difference in DHT reduction is only 10.2% lower on 0.2mg vs. 1mg. So a quarter dosage of finasteride reduces about 90% of the DHT that a full 1mg does.

GPA (increased hair %) numbers are slightly less effective @ 0.2mg vs. 1mg. Comparing these numbers 0.2mg is only 70% as effective as 1mg.

ICA (916 increased hair) numbers are even closer to being the same with 0.2mg vs. 1mg. Comparing these numbers 0.2mg is 93.5% as effective as 1mg.

Now anybody know what the actual difference is from GPA and ICA?

It does seem pretty logical, based on the numbers, that anybody not currently on finasteride who has some concern on sides and/or price, might as well just start off by fourth'ing the pill no? The numbers certainly show that it's considerably better than NO finasteride.

I forgot to compare "hair count" which seems pretty black and white.

The hair count results of 0.2mg is 80% of what 1mg produces.

The reasoning behind me droping the dose is to see if it will have any effect on my training. Im in the gym 6 days a week and am currently trying to get extremly cut. Im having a hard time losing that last bit of bodyfat and read about finasteride raising estrogen making it hard to lose stubborn bodyfat. I am adding spironolactone %5 just in in case .

Thanks for those studies FairTaxNow, It looks like 0.2 is effective enough. 1mg was too sever for me, as i experienced sides. im going to try it out and if i notice shedding ill be back on 0.5mgs.
