Holy cow... with the results I've gotten from surgery, I thought this thread would be full of success stories. It seems like everyone is generally displeased, ranging from disappointed to regretfull. What gives?? Would anyone do it all over again if they had the choice??

How old are you?

How many units did you get?

Finasteride just slows the inevitable up there by the way. Slowly but surely, if you were going to go horseshoe bald, you'll go horseshoe bald and needing new plugs to fill in the bald spots over and over and over again. Until you run out of donor hair. Then you'll have to use body hair which is very expensive. Did you know that?

Lots of men who get plugs are happy for 5-6 years but then notice that they have not stopped losing hair on the front, on the sides, are developing a back bald spot. Propecia slows all of this..........................maybe even for 10-15 years, but it will happen................slowly but surely.

Thats why so many men come to regret surgery. They thought "Ill just fill in these temples to the density of the rest of my hairline and that drug will keep me from losing more hair" and it does for a few years, ................................but then they notice that the temples have receeded further, the top is thinning, the sides are thinning, the surgery is getting obvious. They wonder if the back bald spot is getting bigger, and realize that they dont have that much donor hair to cover all that baldness and realize that they have "started something" that they will have to surgically keep up with all of their lives. Eventually they have to resort to body hair which is very expensive. They never intended to spend 30K on their heads, but have to do that before its all said and done and sometimes more. And to think, they could have just wore a buzz cut and waited on cloning.

But wait.......................some scientists think that cloning is simply going to inject donor hair genetics into miniaturized hairs, making them big again. So if youve transplanted heavily and DESTROYED those vellus hairs on your bald head, you will be phucked with thinnish-looking transplants while other men will be walking around with their teenage hairlines and density some day. Kinda sucks doesnt it?

Hatweary - I take your point about the negativity - I have no desire to participate in it but I realise why it's healthy to have it on the boards. The main point I agree with is that those who are say under 35 should take the greatest care as they are possibly the most vulnerable to a bad or flawed decision.

From my experience and what I've read there's never been a better time to date to consider surgery and be in good hands if you do your research.

People can wait 15-20 years to see if there's new techniques on cloning etc but if you slap 15-20 years on your age is that really a benefit?

This is not meant as a criticism of those providing warnings of the dangers of surgery just an observation. I realise your intentions overall are well meaning.

What Micheal is saying is correct, but thats only if your genetic predisposition is to go completely or near completely bald. Of course there is no way to predict the future, so a hair transplant is always going to be a gamble. And I think cloning is at least 10-20 years away if it comes out at all, who wants to wait that long? I say go for it, get a good surgeon, be prepared for future surgeries, and STAY ON THE MEDS!

im pleased with the results i've got, mostly because i wasnt expecting miracles when i started. Anyone wanting the hairline of a 15 year old kid is gonna be disapointed. People keep saying to me that my hair is different, and cant quite beleive it. they dont guess though.

What confuses me is that my surgeon has photos of work done to stage 6 guys and I think it looks pretty good. Obviously noone would say they have a full head of hair but cosmetically speaking they look a lot more youthful than they did previously.

The NW6 guys with transpants just have transplants to the front and top, and usually leave the crown bald. you don't see that in the pictures because they are from front view.

As for propecia, if every transplant person had so much trouble with it, then so would other non-transplant people on propecia. But i think we know that propecia works on most men and they don't go bald.

The general rule is to use topicals and pills for at least 3 years to see how well you respond. in fact, you can use them just a year and if you regrow a lot of hair in that year, the odds are you will not lose a lot later. Just the guys who only maintain during that year need to wait 3 years to see how fast they are going to lose it.

As for that long list of side effects, I never got any of those. My numbness was temporary, and so was the swelling. I'm happy with my grafts. I posted before that they are too thin, but now they are getting thicker every week as they mature. they blend very well with the hair behind them. And that is just with 30 grafts per cm2, which still have another 2 months to develop more. I also have another 20 beneith the skin that will start growing in 2 more months. I think I will look good, though I'm going to lower my hair line more.

Anyone who is a NW2 or maybe even a NW3 can have a 16 year old's hair line if he uses all his donor hair in the front. you just have to make sure you don't lose any more hair after that. I'm sure I can keep all my hair with my regimen. I just hope i regrow some hair in some smooth bald areas so i don't have to get as many grafts.
