Anyone switch their minoxidil vehicle and get better results?

I've been on the big 3 since I was 19, I'm now 23 and up until recently have maintained really well, but now starting to lose drastic ground with my hairline and its becoming noticeable.

I was only on 0.5mg of finasteride, but upped that on Nov 7th 2011 to 1mg to see if things improved.
Took alot of pictures and still losing ground, so on January 16th 2012 upped it to 1.25mg.

All this time I've been using MinoxMax Fast Dry Essengen as a replacement for Doctor Lee's #500, which up until November I thought was doing a good job (I'm coming up to something like my 9th minoxmax bottle).

My question IS:

Has anybody switched from say Xandrox, to Foam and saw better/worse results? Or Foam to Kirkland minoxidil Liquid and saw better/worse results. Or whatever to whatever?

I'm considering doing a switch and need to order a replacement by the end of the day.

Hey. I cant say if I switched and experienced better results as my regimen has changed throughout since i started so i have no idea what is doing what. I did want to say though, Ive been on the big 3 since may 2011, and for the first 2 months or so i was using foam am and pm. Then for cost reasons i decided to chang to foam am, kirkland 5% pm and at around three months i started seeing results. I suspect the foam caused those results but as I have seen my hair improve month by month i believe the kirkland is holding its own so for what its worth, i think that kirkland minoxidil is perfectly good. I get mine from minoxidil direct website, very cheap and reliable, good customer service too on the one time i had a query. Hope this doesnt appear like shilling, there are other reputable retailers!!

My sense is that the liquid is more effective than the foam, I saw a study once (wish I could find it again) that said although foam worked on more people, the liquid yielded superior results in those that it worked for. That may however have been nonsense, im no scientist.

When did you switch from Dr Lee to minoxidil.max? How long have you been using it? I guess it would take 4-6 months to lose all Dr Lee/minoxidil hair, if you didn't use any minoxidil substitute? While many posters 'swear by'/'swore by' Dr Lee's products, I've yet to be convinced by the minoxidil.max postings I've seen.

Other views from posters trying to find Dr Lee substitutes would be gratefully received.

I suspect many senior posters would say rogaine foam in the morning and Kirkland or rogaine liquid in the evening.

Haha well it looks like a shady sort of site...but I've seen slim shadier *cough* doctor proctor *cough* nah he's a cool cat really, Prox-N was the very first hairloss product I ever bought like 6 years ago!

Anyway, so about £60 for a 3 month supply of Kirkland Liquid and Rogain Foam is an average price? I like the fact you can buy both products here at once. After studying the Success Stories it does seem to be one or the other, and a lot of people are combining to save cash.

Literally days after Lee was shut down (May 2011?) I jumped on Genhair minoxidil for a sesh but that was horrendous, so I started Essengen on June 13th 2011.

Saying it would take 4-6 months to lose the Dr-Lee-hair actually makes a lot of sense to me, now I dwell on it, since I started to notice I'd lost ground in November!! Is that a eureka moment? Felt like it. :bravo:

Defo.

Haha like I said, im no shill and i agree that site looks outdated, ive been ordering from there since may, it goes through paypal so your bank details are secure and the products arrive within about 10 days. Like I say, it may well be you can find them cheaper or quicker delivery elsewhere, but they work for me and a guy called spex who is affiliated with many of these forums recommends them on his site and he seems to be trusted. I dont know what the arrangement is there but all i know is ive been ordering from them, ive always got my stuff, no ones robbed me yet and i have more hair on my head! I am keen to stress though, do your homework and make your own mind up, i could be lying of course!

Also recommend biovea.net. Ordered from them 3x and they seem reliable.

That minoxidil direct site looks cheap, £50 for 4 months of foam is cheapest I've seen in UK. Crap looking site tho eh.

I trust you Beaker.

I think if I don't find a cheaper alternative before bed, I'll get the 3 month rogaine foam and kirkland liquid from there for £58. I've gotta say if it regrows anything, I'm gonna have to slam, officially slam, Essengen. Watch out.

Please keep contributing though everyone who reads this, thanks for your replies so far guys.

I wish I could tell.

I was shaving my head and using just finasteride + Regaine liquid for about 6 months, trying to use the liquid 2x daily but not getting a very good morning application (because I had to wash it out before work).

On just that I definitely saw new hairs.

Then switched to Kirkland PM/Foam AM and after a few months let my hair grow out and it is way better than before any treatment, but I can't really compare it to Regaine alone, since my hair was shaved then.

All I can say is that I've always had liquid as part of my routine (initially Regaine, then Kirkland) and my hair has definitely improved overall. So I don't dare drop liquid.

If I could I would soak my head in liquid minoxidil all day. There's some guy in experimental who does just that :)

That is beyond funny! If you ever need any evidence that the world is truly bonkers that is it! Somewhere right now, that guy has got his head upside down in a bucket!

Hahaha struth, what a legend. Literally head in a minoxidil bucket?

Hey Man In Space I ordered from Minoxidil Direct last night, and it's the weirdest checkout ever. Took me straight to Paypal in a different window? Do they send a "your delivery has been dispatched" email? I'm so desperate to get that stuff in right now, my middle hairline has really become more and more of an island in these past few months and I'm certain it's because Essengen isn't working :(

I'm 2 weeks into upping my finasteride dose to 1.25 too, thats probs not helped.

Like I said I do think its a very low fi operation they got going there, from what I recall (its been a few months since i ordered) they send you an email when your order has been shipped, its usually pretty quick, though from what i remember its not immediate. Dont sweat it man it will be fine!

I decided to march straight up Asda and buy a can of Regaine Foam yesterday whilst I wait for my online order, and after using Xandrox 5%, Xandrox 15+, Dr. Lees #500, Genhair Sensitive and finally Essengen 5% over the course of 5 years I can honestly say the foam is the weirdest minoxidil vehicle ever.

It dries in like 30 seconds
The half a capful amount seems ludicrously small
And most of all it just doesn't feel like there is anything at all on my hairline! Obviously it's doing something, but it just doesn't feel like it.
Bizarre.

It is weird! I started out on the foam and then brought liquid into the mix as well a bit later and because i did it that way round the liquid came as a shock.
I simply couldnt believe that people were able to put this on in the morning and go out, its so greasy.
The benefit of the foam is that you can use it to style your hair, it also acts to cosmetically thicken your hair but make sure your getting it into the scalp, i find that when i was first using it, i was getting more in the hair than on my head!
