Anyone use Rogaine just as a preventative measure without hairloss

I cut my hair really short a few months ago and convinced myself that it was thinning. Anyway, have been using Walmart Rogaine ever since. It definately isn't thin now, but it's super easy, so I plan to keep using it.

Question is, do people use Rogaine as prevention for male pattern baldness and for having really thick hair? And, is there really a downside besides the cost and couple minutes extra putting it on.

my mob started when i was 23/24. i used the wall mart brand and it did wonders for me. fast forward to age 27 it stopped having an effect, and i began to lose all my gains. i had to add finasteride to my regimen. however, i have not been able to get that great regrowth again even after adding finasteride.

I am DYING to know the answer to this question. I may or may not have lost some hair this year (29 yo female,) it's been impossible to tell, but am wondering if I should try Rogaine anyway because my hair is naturally very fine (like baby hair.)

I was wondering if Rogaine works in people who don't have hair loss. Presumably, it should do something, because it maximizes the ability of hair follicles to grow hair, and has been shown to make a difference in density and diameter statistically. So it's not like it's addressing something that hair loss sufferers only experience.

Ritt,

did you have an initial shed? Has rogaine made a difference in the individual diameters of your hair strands?

This a hairLOSS forum. Most members here have male pattern baldness/FPB. If you are diagnosed early there is a better possibility one can maintain/regain hair with early treatment.

Rogaine or minoxidil. will not prevent genetic alopecia. Unless you actually have it (Androgenetic Alopecia)then it's a sensible approach.

Frankly anyone else with an otherwise "healthy head of hair" who is contemplating applying minoxidil. is either bored, greedy or temporarily (let's hope) off their rocker. Do what you will (and you will) and good luck with that.

No, there was no shedding at all. It's seems like it has thickened the hair. Only been a few months on it, but I think it has worked.

^^^^I know I don't have bald spots, but I want to ensure that I don't lose any hair. I really don't see the harm in trying to have as thick of hair as possible. I had no side effects at all from the Rogaine, so there's no harm either way. Plus, why wait till your hair is noticeably thinning to do something?

It seems like using minoxidil would do nothing if you started going bald. All your hair is still going to miniaturize from androgens regardless of the minoxidil. minoxidil is mainly a regrowth agent not a hair loss prevention tool. I know people that used minoxidil right away and they lost all their hair while using it. You wont prevent with minoxidil especially if you have strong genetics for it. Even propecia might not prevent it in some cases.

^^^^i really don't get y this wouldn't keep hair from falling out? U take it to REGROW the hair that has fallen out and have to use it forever to keep the regrowth. I'm just cutting out actually going bald before using minoxidil. my hair is definately thinner than it used to be, so I'm just trying to be proactive and keep it as long as possible.

i would never use Propecia because of perm sexual side effects, but would seriously consider hair transplant if I do go bald. $8 a month is a lot cheaper than thousands for hair plugs.

I used S5 with no male pattern baldness and it made my hair fall out, so I'd be cautious of this.
