I know a ton of tall vegetarians so I doubt protein leads to height gain. Growth hormones are probably whats causing the gain in height in most countries.

If hormones are the reason, shouldn't your vegitarian friends be shorter, not taller?

PowerSam,
Does Australia import any hormone grown foods? How tall is the average man and woman over there? I heard the spiders are pretty big.

As for calcium, the bones in many canned fish have it. The milk you drink was fortified with calcium and vit D, so you might as well take a multivitamin, or drink calcium fortified orange juice. Leafy greans are not a source of calcium, even though lying nutritionists say they are. The truth is a cup of leafy greans has 2% of the calcium you need. So put a huge pile on your plate if you want your 100%, and try not to overdose on any of the other vitamines!

meat and poultry are all grown here in australia ( with the exception of the specialty ones, although apparently we produce awesome kobe beef).

i'm not sure what else would contain hormones that might be active in the human body. the vast majority of our fruits and vegetables are grown here also. obviously all dairy as well.

yeah i do try to eat salmon with the bones as often as possible. i'm not too much of a supplement person, especially with things i can get easily from food. i heard almonds have a reasonable amount of calcium in them also.

oh as to average height. the average australian male is bang on 180cm which is just under 5'11" but that average is from 1995 so i would assume 11 years would add a little bit to that.

College,

I meant that most of these hormones given to cows also affect vegetarians who eat cheese, ice cream, yogurt, drink milk etc...

With each generation we are more prone to male pattern baldness, why? I have a theory but its kind hard to explain and there's absolutely no proof to this.

Lets say our great grandfather was the first in the family to lose hair. So he was born with the male pattern baldness gene to some degree. When he has a baby, his cells are already damaged from this male pattern baldness gene, and that passes through the sperm and into the childs DNA. Now the child is more prone to male pattern baldness because he started out with damaged cells or immune system thanks to his father or mother. Just like what you eat at the time can effect your child, i think whats goin on in your body can also effect your child.

Another example of my theory. Lets say your grandfather was the first in the family to start smoking, and never had any problems, when he has a son, the son will be more prone to the negative effects of cigarettes because when his father made him, his cells were damaged because of the smoking, and this passes through the sperm into the childs DNA, so the son is born with these cells damaged and thus more prone to the negative effects of smoking because he wasnt born with a fresh start so to speak.

Its a wacko theory, but it might make some sense. I mean i dont think the food and everything today is causing kids to bald faster, i think its because we are far down the family chain and its gets worse and worse with every generation due to the theory explained above.

I also think that possibly too much masterbation is a factor today aswell. We should not masterbate or have sex for at least 3 months and see how our hair does. Or mabye all that masterbating triggered some effects that we are now suffering from? Who knows. hurry up HM!

you're not passing down cells you're passing down your genes....lets say your dad got stabbed in the heart at age 15 and had heart problems ever since...that doesnt mean that you will have heart problems because your dad's cells were damaged

well mabye the gene gets more saturated as it passes down through the generations. And your example doesnt make sense. If your dad was stabbed in the heart i dont think you would be born with messed up gene's.

Im talking about internal cells being more immune to the disease with each generation because the one before you was exposed thus possibly damaging it internally and in some complex way. Either way, i dont give a sh*t, my hair is doing great. Im outta here.

Im sure food has a part to play ..... but our genes are what makes us what we are - tall, short, thin, fat, bald or hairy ..... the food just makes up the potential that our DNA can provide .....

Have never heard that jacking off can make you bald !! How ??

And is it just masterbation or does sex with your wife count as well !!

How does your head know whether your jacking or funking ?? :D

This theory is contradicting itself. Lets assume that you are right then today we would have every man bold by their twenties because of the constant blood mixture between different people every generation. This did not take place, consequently your location in family chain does not affect your baldness it something different. I think the cause is alot more different. Unfortunately i am not a med student, i would definitelly spend some time to research this matter.

Is there any evidence that baldness is increasing?

- - - Updated - - -

The diet excuse is not valid IMO. My parents generation (I'm in the U.S. and 28) struggled much more then today's children. Nutrition (even in the developed world) has improved to the degree that the average height of U.S. inhabitant increases about 3/4 of an inch per decade. In countries like North Korea, where malnutrition is everywhere, the average height is decreasing at about 1/2 inch per decade. Therefore on the avergae our diets have improved over the years.
Of course our diets have seen an increase in sugers and farm steroid injection in American farm animals has decreased but there is no study, to my knowledge, that has shown that men are balding earlier and without proper scientific study, we will never know.
If you bring up this topic to bunch of balding guys (like us) who tend to notice hairloss more then others, then I would guess that they would think that the rate of baldness is increasing. There is also one important point that people have missed, today's society is far more vain and things like hairloss and body hair are looked at as gross by many people. My point, perhaps the percentage of balding men has not changed, it is just that men and women tend to notice hairloss more today then they did in years past.

No, the average height has not increased by 0.75 inches per decade since your parents' generation.

Americans are not getting taller anymore, they're actually getting shorter
http://weighinginblog.org/1/post/2015/08/americans-are-getting-shorter.html

Diet is actually quite poor nowadays, with the emphasis on "low-fat" foods.

AT LEAST 1/4 of the guys I see on my college campus are NW2 or higher.

A meaningless statistic without comparing it to a similar college campus census from "thirty years ago".
