I have read claims in both directions, does anyone have any personal experiences?
My hair loss in mainly frontal/temporal, although it seems the whole top area is thinning also.
I am worried about comiting to products that are not recomended for frontal hairloss

The combination of the two (proscar/min) seems to be working for me in the front !

Hi

my trichologist told me that Minoxidil lotion works on the frontal loss and propecia tablets are better for the crown and some area forward of the crown/scalp area.

(that said i have not seen the results i would like - but this may be because i can;t take propecia because it contains lactose and I am intolerant.

however i am presentrly looking into getting the prostate med. PROSCAR and cutting it up into smaller quantitiies, thereby lowering the lactose percentage - lactose being included largely just to make the tablet the right colour and consistency, I'm supposing; thereby there being less per tablet.)

my trichologist - who despite being unable to help me - is by far one of the most respected practitioners in the UK - my location - and I have no reason to assume that he is wrong about this, my being hardly a scientififc test of his advice.

he did say, though, that it was v. difficult to stimulate hair growth frontally; propecia tablets do do some work there... but it's the minoxidil that does most of the work.

on this site, it has been suggested to me that one of the reasons i have not seen results is because although i was using min. lotion for a year - there was no Propecia side to my regimen to make it take.

best of luck out there - there are plenty of helpful people on this site that should be able to give you advice.

I experienced continued hairloss in the front while being on minoxidil 2% then 5% for more than two years. I dropped the useless "growth-stimulant" and got serious results when starting Propecia: My hairline is now becoming nice and straight again and I hope it will move forward in the near future.

Hey De Gaulle,

I read your story with some interest, unfortunately i don't like coffee, but tea sufficed. Most people, including myself belive that minoxidil is best in combo with proscar so i would not completely disregard minoxidil's ability to perform a little magic. But as we both know treatments have different effects on us all... i used minoxidil on its own and later found that it was helping, it just was not regrowing anything on its tod... and i think it probably helped you slow down the loss, but as your older than the average 20 year old most people experiencing hairloss in their later years, it is normally as a result of DHT. Well, thats my theory anyway. Proscar seems to always work with men losing in their 30s and 40s as their hair is slowly being weakend by DHT.

P.S just got back in from a drink with a few friends and no longer know what point i was trying to make...sorry

Petchsky,

Thanks for your comment: I myself am a tea person (Earl Grey is my favorite!)

I agree with you regarding Minoxidil. It probably helped me maintain some of my hair although I shed quite a bit while being on it, however, from my experience Propecia is a far better drug to use for hairloss treatment and regrowth.

Cheers.

Minoxidil and Propecia are effective up front, just like with anything, dependant upon how good of a responder you are. The only reason neither of them can make the claim for frontal hair loss restoration or maintenance is because it wasn't tested there in the FDA trials. There have been studies done since then that show its effectiveness up front. Its just a legal issue.

Yes darling. I'm sure a "triologist" is not, as you so rightly pointed out, a fully trained practising member of the medical profession.

And also, I have to admit, neither is a "trichologist". But as far as I know, in this country (the UK - where are you?) you don't go to your GP with "hairloss".

The trichologist that I went to see I selected after doing some research - and he's supposed to be one of the leading Practitioners in the country.

Then again - I've learnt more and better advice from this site, I'm afraid to say - it shouldn't really be like that should it?

So at the end of the day, you win i suppose. But like I say, as far as I am aware, in Britain a GP wouldn't know what to do with you if you went in and wanted a solution to male pattern baldness. He would probably suggest you saw a Trichologist!

I had a look at your regimen -

My Regimen: one cup of green tea at breakfast

Fish oil tablets X3 a day(to improve hair quality)

So do you think that Finisatride and Minoxidil are all crap too?
