Hi I'm planning on finding a new physician and was curious are there any doctors that specialize in hair loss? I'm sure there are some doctors that know more about hair loss than others. I guess what I really want to know is there anyway to search doctors in my area to find a good one to discuss hair loss with?

Thanks,
Nate

What do you expect to get out of the visit?

Only two proven treatments are rogaine and propecia.

Maybe he wants an official male pattern baldness diagnosis before starting a treatment. I've read on a Rogaine box that if you don't have male pattern baldness it could make more hair fall out.

Yes to discuss my options and also the side effects. I'm in the I guess you would call the first stage of balding my widows peaks is starting to move back some and thin out, but I still have all the hair on the back of my head. Any advice is appreciated of what you guys think would be the best approach to take with where I'm at. Also don't I need a doctor to prescribe propecia or can you get that on your own?

You do need a prescription for propecia, but not Rogaine. You should probably start attacking it ASAP, not do what I did and ignore it for 7 years.

Nate I am in the same shoes as you my Widows Peak has deff changed and some of my friends have made comment about it.

What I suggest you do is try get a blood test done focusing on
FSH

LH

Prolactin

Oestradiol

Testosterone S

SHBG

DHEAS

FAI

....and of course....DHT

That way before you start finasteride treatment you have a 'baseline' of your blood before taking finasteride this way if sides happen you can adjust and compare to original. I think this would be very helpful to treat any possible Gyno that may happen not saying it will but yeah.

Ok that makes sense and yes you need a doctor.

I suggest you call and ask around if they deal with a lot of hair loss. Many derms simply push out injections and acne treatments so not much hair loss.

To be honest...you may be better off seeing a general practitioner. Derms are expensive and I have read countless people say that a derm forced them back every 3 or 4 months for expensive visits.
