Are we taking too much MSM?

From a safety point of view the doses talked about on these boards 1-2 gram a day (1000-2000 mg) is reasonable... I dont see anything in the article that higher doses would not also be safe...

From the article "Toxicity studies completed on MSM demonstrated that the compound is remarkably non-toxic. Extremely high dosages, up to 2,000 mg/kg, were utilized for measurement purposes in the toxicity research with no adverse reaction measured." So 2000mg/kg = 2gm/kg for an 80 kg man would be 160 grams, and that had no toxic effects.

What dose is needed for efficacy, and even what benefits are possible with MSM needs more study.

I started taking a supp for my joints, that were a bit sore from lifting hard and it has MSM in it. Ive noticed my hair seems to have more color ( its red ) and is a bit healthier than it was previously. Maybe its just a positive cycle its going through or maybe its the MSM...

I too ordered "Pro Joint Care" from AmerMeds which includes: Glucosamin 1500mg, Chondroitin 500mg, MSM 500mg, and Hydrolyzed Fish Collagen 500mg. I purchased it mainly because I lift a lot and my right elbow was bothering me a little from doing free tricep curls, but I expect MSM to help my hair as well :jumpy:

I read that any excess MSM in the system is simply pissed out. Therefore not harmful, but who knows for sure.

Yeah ive been told by my doctor if you do take too much it wont harm you as the body just uses what it needs and gets rid of the rest.

Anyone on a budget should consider drinking their morning piss thus getting maximum usage from their msm and other internal supplements.
