Aspartmame & Meat???

Hello!

I was wondering how many people that post here drink or eat a alot of diet pop, or products containing aspartame? Also, how many people are vegetarians, or do not eat any meat or dairy products?

The reason I'm asking is, I'm 34 and have been losing my hair since my early 20's, I have also been consuming a 6 pack, or 1-liter+ of diet pop since then as well as been a meat eater all my life. Last october, I got some chicken that grossed me out and made me a little sick, so I stopped eating meat for a few days. Well a few days turned into a month, and I somehow ended up becoming a vegetarian. Also, in November, I read a lot of stuff about artifical sweeteners, and completely stopped drinking any kind of pop.

I didn't do it because of my hairloss, and in fact I have accepted my hairloss and moved on for the most part. Well, a week or so before Christmas, I was looking in the mirror and noticed I had new hair growing in. At first it was little light brown hairs, so I didn't make too much of it. A couple weeks later, I noticed some of the little brown hairs were turning black. And, my almost completely bald spot in the back, had little brown hairs all over it. Now, I'm not going to let this get to me too much, because I don't feel like getting my hopes up to be let down. But, clearly something in my diet drastically effected my hairloss for it to be growing like it is after only a few months of vegetarianism, or only a couple months after quitting diet pop.

If any of you have consumed aspartame in large quantities for a extended period I would really like to hear from you.

Is aspartame in all soda or just diet soda? I really should lay off the soda. I probably drink at least a 32 oz. mountain dew everyday. I've been a vegetarian for about ten years and have not noticed a change in hairloss except when I was eating crappy foods. Paul mccartney has a full head of hair and he's vegetarian, but everyone thinks its a rug. It looks real to me.

All soda or just Diet?

I'm pretty sure it's only in Diet soda, but it is also in many other food products...

Just a personal study/questions...

I'm curious to see if anyone else has had any hair changes, loss or growth when using aspartame, and/or becoming a vegetarian. I don't think my use of diet pop was the sole blame for my hairloss (male pattern baldness), but obviously it did effect the way I was losing it.

Now that I know for sure I have a small amount of regrowth, to where before I have never had any regrowth worth mentioning, and never have taken anything for hairloss, there must be some connection. I read what old posts I could find in the forums about aspartame, but they were pretty old. And I have searched on the internet but haven't found anyone else that has stopped consuming aspartame and talked about regrowing their hair. So, is it only me? Something to do with my genetics, or has anyone else had a similar experience?

I DON'T ever drink or eat aspertame. I don't drink diet sodas at all. It's not because of some aspertame fear, it has more to do with the fact that diet soda tastes like shiit.

I'm actually not much of a soda drinker at all, much prefer water or tea. But if I'm going to have a soda, I'm gonna have the real thing, sugar, corn syrup and all.

Unfortunately, despite a lifetime of not ingesting aspertame, I am still losing my hair.

I had this cool tought spinning in my head yesterday when I was thinking about a more holistic view on hairloss.. Or actually hair growth..
I was thinking about looking at hair like it was grass and the scalp like it was the ground. To make it grow you`ll need seed right.. What if the body needed the same nutrions.. So I was thinking about just eating all kinda seeds and having some plant growth stimulant on my head. I think for growing something we need SEEEEEDS, just like Flax Seeds!!
Any toughts?? And dont laugh to much ok!!!

That's an interesting notion, but just remember we are not plants, we are mammals. So I don't think rubbing manure on your scalp will help much either.
Has anyone figured out what exactly hair is made of and what makes it grow? If we figure that out maybe there is something we could use to help it along.

I won't laugh at you. Instead, I will tell you that your theory is based in absurdity. I will also tell you not to expect much out of your regimen consisting solely of "hot water."

I actually have the opposite feeling to this...

I quit meat at the end of the summer - mainly for ideological reasons. But I've noticed my hair thinning quite a bit. Obviously it's due to genetics but factors like this may accelerate/slow down the process. I've gone back to eating meat as I feel protein is an issue.

I drink shitloads of diet soda. Think I'll cut back though...

but my opinion is meat is probably good for thickening hair....which pisses me off as I really would be vegetarian if it didn't affect my hair. I feel like a total sellout but sadly my hair means that much to me.

I went on the Atkins diet to start the year and swore off soda. After a week, I was back on diet soda just to try the new Black Cherry Vanilla Coke. 24 cans later and few carbs back into my diet, I feel my hair is thinner than ever. It could be from the lack of carbs, raise in protein or diet soda. Hard to say but I gotta change one of those things.
