I actually drink Mate and take this stuff called Kava Kava which you may find at your local coop or natural foods shop. It helps me get focused. It is a natural root extract.

Good luck-

wow man, I drink Mate too!!

An August 11, 2005 United States patent application (document #20050176777 & #20030185908 & #20020054926) cites yerba mate extract as an inhibitor of MAO activity; the maximal inhibition observed in vitro was 40–50%. A monoamine oxidase inhibitor is a type of antidepressant, so there is some data to suggest that yerba mate has calming effect in this regard.

selegiline

hey scientist,

Look into Selegiline (aka deprenyl). Here are the basics: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Selegiline

You can find it online at many online pharmacies, etc. Indian generic "Selgin" is cheap and good quality, IMHO.

I take 5mg a day, to good effect. It helps quite a bit with ADD type symptoms, but one drawback is it can be something of an "upper" and makes some people nervous (not any more than the other ADD stimulants though). It is really worth a try, as it can work wonders. It also happens to be one of the few drugs known to man that extend the life of animals (I kid not), so it has a following in the "life extension" crowd.

Also if you haven't tried Adderall XR (extended release form) and can afford it, give that a try. There is nothing like 20-40mg Adderall when you can't focus. I'm not convinced that it's safe for long term use though, the stuff really dehydrates me.

Scientist,

I strongly urge you to consult a doctor before you order ADD medicine from ANYONE.
