I have been taking Avodart 3x a week (expensive drug) apparently the 1/2 life is like 280 hours, so 3x a week should be plenty, anyone have opinions on this?

Avodart is extremely powerful. 3x should be enough to reduce your dht enough to see less hairloss...

I assum you're taking the 0.5 dosage?

Yes it's .5

The question is, I not only want less hairloss, I want to halt it, if not make my situation better?

Is there a difference between 3x and every day? or is it negligible? doctors say negligible.. what do you think?

Unfortunately not enough people have been on the drug for long enough times to have any concrete results for effective dosages. You might do searches on other hair loss boards because there are many more who are on the drug over there. Keep in mind, majority (including doctors) would be merely guessing at what they think would be an effective amount.. other than the daily .5.

I've been taking the .5mg Avodart capsules every other day for about 7 months, in addition to using minoxidil, and its worked well for me. Even the front of my hair is improving whereas with finasteride & minoxidil the thinning was only slowed.

How do you feel otherwise? Have you noticed any change when you made the switch from one drug to the other? I'm not really saying do you have gyno, i'm saying do you have less libido? are you tired?

Also, was there any period of shedding when you made the switch? How long were you on Finasteride before you decided to switch?

I should've also said that for the first couple of weeks I took .5mg daily to build up the amount of drug in my system and then cut it down to every other day.

Now to your questions Bombscience, I used Finasteride for 20 months before switching to Avodart and whilst taking it daily my libido was actually higher than normal but on the downside I had moments when my head felt kinda foggy. Apart from that there was no change, and they both went after I changed to .5mg every other day, so I feel the same as when I was on finasteride which is the same as pre finasteride.

Didn't really have a period of shedding either, but then I never did on finasteride, I've only had the odd day or two when the no. of hairs I noticed come out when brushing was higher than the normal loss you get.

Just remembered one change since switching to dutasteride is that the extra bit of flesh I gained round my stomach whilst on finasteride has gone. Though I don't think my diet or exercise level has altered I couldn't say for sure so I'm not going to ascribe this change to using dutasteride.

Hope this helps/makes sense

It makes perfect sense. Thanks for writing that all out. Stick around for then next couple months, I'll be interested to see how you're doing at month 12.

Thanks.

By month 12 (next May) I plan on having hair as thick as Brad Pitts', and if mine doesn't grow that well by then I'm going to hunt him down, scalp him and wear it like a wig.
