Avodart failure?

Hello all, I've been reading posts on this site for some time now, but this is my first. I'm 34 years old, I had been maintaining my hair on propecia for around 5-6 years. I started taking Creatine, and noticed my hair loss picked up, this was about 8-10 months ago. I found out afterward that Creatine increases DHT levels, so I obviously stopped taking it. So the hairloss had increased, and I decided propecia was no longer getting the job done. In May of 2013 I switched to .5mg of Avodart. At first based on my Dr. recommendation it was 2-3 times per week. I've since increased, and now take it every other day. I'm still thinning/ shedding. I'm trying to be patient, but It's been 7 months now, and my hair looks worse then when I started. My loss is thinning mostly on the top of my head, so frontal loss. I've added Regenpure shampoo DR, and NT about 3-4 weeks ago. I also added Viviscal vitamins, after I visited a hair transplant surgeon for an opinion. I also put minoxidil on my scalp today for the first time. My questions are... Should I stop the avodart, and go back to Propecia, or is there a chance that it still may actually help me? Anyone have an opinion on Viviscal, and or Regenpure shampoo. Any feed back is greatly appreciated.

I'm wondering the same thing brother.

I'm two months shy of a year, and I don't see an improvement with avodart, if anything, my hair has got worse. I'm debating if I should switch back to propecia, but I can't find too many stories on how switching back to propecia affected one's hair..

Hey, I started taking only Avodart in May, just like you! But instead I did it once a day. Before that I was doing it once every other with propecia in between. I have noticed the same as you- that i have only seen an increase in hair loss since May, and mostly near the hairline on the front of my head. Up until then, the top front of my head had been pretty stable, while most of my hair loss had been on the sides of my head/ generally loss of density.

I wonder the same as you, when is it time to step back? Avodart is not even approved for use with hair loss, but doctors perscribe it anyway. But maybe it really is not that great of a drug, or effective in the way we want it to be.

I have also noticed my skin drying out, yet at the same time having zit break outs on my forehead and thighs.

Unfortunately I have seen this story a lot. It is pretty unusual for someone to see loss on finasteride and then find that dutasteride is the holy grail. I find that very unfortunate.

i think its a similar situation to finasteride. u read the amazing success stories, and think that the same thing will happen to u. but in reality most of us are lucky to get a slowdown in recession. and i also think speeding up the loss in the temples is common as well, but noone wants to admit it.
