generic avodart vs brand - effectiveness in question
Been on the generic version since it came out in Oct-2015. A few weeks after starting generic (first Teva, most recently Amneal--both generic versions are $160 for 30 pills) noted more itching/shedding particularly in areas I didn't usually shed before going generic: top-front of head. I had been on brand Avodart 1mg qd for ~5 years before starting the 1 mg generic and am certain the brand version stopped hair loss. Prior to Avodart I had tried Propecia which I switched to Avodart after a couple/few months because of no change in shedding. After Propecia I began with 0.5 mg brand Avodart (around ~$200 for 30 pills then) switched to 1 mg after a few months because I was still shedding, although it was much less than when on Propecia. Also tried laser helmet (30 min every other day or so for a year) a few years back during my time on 1mg Avodart but it did not seem to have any impact on regrowth so I sold it. I am confident that brand Avodart is the best option available for hair loss (I have no affiliation with GSK nor do I profit in any way because of this testimonial). Although generic may have the same concentration of dutasteride in the pill I believe the availability in the blood (which can vary by 10% with generic) is the cause of the ineffectiveness. Thanks, Fred ... Jan-18, 2016 update: STILL SHEDDING!
