Avodart or generic brand?

I am giving dutasteride some consideration to treat my male pattern baldness. I've been on propecia for 10 months and although it has slowed my hairloss down to a degree, I think my male pattern baldness is very aggressive and am considering switching to/adding dutasteride.

My dilemma is, on the following link, should I purchase the avodart or a generic brand. Is there a huge difference?

A months supply of a generic brand will cost less than a third of one month's supply of avodart, but obviously I want a quality product.

Some advice would be great. Cheers!

Dutas is probably just as good.

It's hard to tell. I only used it intermittently, but I'm sure it worked alright for me, and should for you.

In a nonscientific, non double-blind taste test experiment carried out by iamnaked, avodart and duprost (up) were found to have a very similar taste.

There is no legit generac brand yet. What you see around is being made in other countrys without good quality. The patent has not run out yet on Avodart

there is no difference between generic and original. Some people go with the prescription just for the peace of mind that comes with getting it through a pharmacy.

I'm using generic dutas after the effects of Propecia started to wear off. The generic dutas has been good to me and stabilized my loss. Generic was also much easier to order, I once tried ordering Avodart but it was red flagged.

does that mean people can't legally make dutasteride in other countrys?

I'm confused...

Buy Avodart if you are at all worried about getting substandard or fake generic dutasteride. I think a lot of hair loss is psychosomatic so if you worry about this you will lose more hair. It will also avoid a further increase in the ¨is my dutasteride real¨ posts.

The patent on AvoDart should be running out soon - no? Isn't it like 7 years from entrance onto the market? I think it's been about 6 since AvoDart was released. I could be wrong.

I dunno about you guys, but I wouldn't mess with any "generics" from India. That is just crazy.

My understanding is that drug patents typically run for 20 years, the first several of which will be consumed as clinical trials proceed.

From an SEC filing by GSK earlier this year: "... the basic patent covering the active ingredient in Avodart expires in November 2015; other patents covering the compound generically and its use to treat benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) expire in September 2013."

Quite a few on here have used the generic version without issue. An Indian firm producing generics has need to maintain a reputation of excellence every bit as much as does GSK, Pfizer, Sanofi, etc.

so does that mean that the companies who are churning out generics are doing so illegally or in a way that would make them sub-par?

I think Indian patent law has been amended in the last couple of years, but historically it protected the method of manufacturing a drug rather than the chemical compound itself. So find an alternate way to produce Avodart and you've got yourself Dutas, for example.

I have tasted the inside of a genuine Avodart (glaxo) and a Duprost (cipla) capsule, and I can confirm that they are practically identical by taste. As anyone who's tasted a dutasteride capsule will know it has a very distinctive flavour.
