Friends

Ive been on Avodart 1 month. Dont know if its a coincidence or not but in this same month I have been fast starting to loose frontal hairline; pretty much the beginning of the end for me as I have so far been able to disguise my hair loss but with it hitting the front its becoming obvious. Im thinking Im going to stop Avodart while I still have some hair left. Im going to dermatologist next week and see what he says

Anyone else experience shedding with Avodart?

Im baffled and miserable to have gone from unusually massive and thick hair to on my way to balding in 10 months.

i'm a noob, but i thought shedding was a sign of progress, it means the hairs are being replaced with thicker hair, im on dutasteride and just started shedding into the 1 month mark

Shedding is a good sign, indeed. If you want to try dutasteride, u must use it at least 6 month.

yeah, keep going... the shedding is a natural process as new hair growth accelerates and the old hair is pushed out. I’m sure it’s freaky as hell though, and I haven’t yet experienced it so I can’t say from personal experience that I know how tough it is. Nevertheless, it should pass and you will probably be happy you stuck with your treatment when it is over.

I'm goingo through the same process...

Switched from finasteride to dutasteride and started shedding in 3 days.
Now it's about 40 days I'm taking duta and things do not still go better...
Maybe it's a seasonal shedding, or maybe something else. Who knows?

Is your shedding still going on, Tombolino?

Does anybody else experienced shedding switching to or starting with duta? How long was this phase? Did you get your hairs back?

Avodart Shedding

Switched from Propecia to Avodart (0.5mg daily) on Feb 14th 2006. Continued to use Regular Strength Regaine morning and evening. Shedding became evident within a few weeks of the change. Now been on Avodart approaching four and half months. Shedding still evident although not as pronounced. Still greater than when I was on Propecia. Thinning on top of scalp apparent when standing under a light source, which was not the case when taking Propecia. However hairloss around temples and areas other than top of scalp not evident. Hairloss around temples (and top of scalp) before taking Propecia (approx two years ago) was definitely evident.

I have also noticed that my libido has increased quite significantly since changing to Avodart!

Dev,

you mean duta thickened and filled your temples and frontal line plus no recession but caused thinning on top?

Weren't you shedding when you was on propecia?

I'd say that my temple and frontal line is the same as when on Propecia. I had good results on Propecia, but got greedy and wanted to improve my temple area so thought that I might achieve this by switching to Avodart. I didn't phase Propecia out slowly, just stopped taking it the day I started Avodart. I now know that Propecia leaves the system within a couple of days and that Avodart takes 3 months to reach maximum effectiveness. So the shedding could be explained by the period during which the Avodart was slowly building in my system and the Propecia was absent.

Now this could be subjective, but my remaining hair, which is still pretty extensive actually feels thicker (that is, the individual strands feel thicker)

I'd like to find someone who switched from Propecia to Avodart a year or more ago and discover their results.

At the moment, Avodart is making me feel uneasy. However, the return of my libido to normal levels is definitely a good thing.

Jacky, you and I began Avodart around the same time. I think I started about 1 month before you.

Have you had any shedding?

Continued improvement?

I've been shedding like crazy from the hairline and temples.

Aplunk1,

you said "I've been shedding like crazy from the hairline and temples".
What you mean? Shedding when you started duta or shedding now and still going on?

I'm shedding from the hairline too like crazy, I will visit a dermathologist as soon as possible in the hope he can help me with topical antiandrogens.

High volume shedding for the last two months.

No shedding, except occasional hair fall, for months 1-5 on dutasteride.

Aplunk1,

do you feel itching or discomfort in the scalp or pain moving/touching it?

Maybe a bit of Idrocortisone 2 times a week for a month or two could help your shedding to stop. But pay attention, you can't use ketoconazole and idrocortisone together.

No visible effect! :(

I've been 6 months on avodart (this is my very first hairloss treatment). I have so much shedding while showering. My left hairline is still worse than the right. I see no distinguishable difference. Avodart was my only hope since it is the most effective actual hair loss treatment, now I don't know what to do. But I have to continue it at least one year to take my little chance.

I am a female so the effect of this drug is obviously greater on me, but I took my first 0.5mg tablet of avodart on Monday. It’s now Saturday, and I have been shedding buckets since Thursday. Like hundreds of hairs. I was only going to take one tablet a week, now I’m wondering if I should just pack it in.
