Bald Shaming By Hollywood (why On Earth Does A Thread Title Need To Be 7 Words!?)

My rare posts are generally way too postitive for this forum/sub forum. I don't think baldness is the end of the world and know that it doesn't spell the end of datinf life. I have however always maintained that there is sadly a high level of bald shaming in Hollywood (and often in TV in general).

On this subject, one of the worst cases I've ever seen was while watching 'The Passion Of The Christ' the other day. It actually really disappointed me that this had made its way into such a religious film.

Maybe others who have seen it will know what I am talking about but basically the men who are torturing Jesus are all portrayed as bald/balding with shaved heads. Even when Satan is shown...he/she is seen carrying a totally bald, adult looking baby.

And later..when Satan is shown in hell....yep...his/her hair flies off showing a shaved head.

Pretty pathetic filmmaking/prejudice by Mel Gibson. In Mel Gibson's eyes apparently bald and evil are synonymous and that is what he wanted his viewers to think.

Here are a couple of the scenes I refer to:

Thanks for pointing this out. I have never watch this film and wouldn't have known that this controversial movie also succumbed to this lazy portrayal.

It not bald shaming. It’s just making “villains” look unattractive.

Notice how male leads are always 90% attractive even if they are bald. The Rock and Jason are good examples.

It’s not that the villains are bald it’s that they are unattractive. Most have weak/no masculine facial features.

It not that Hollywood is prejudice against bald people it Is that being bald is not considered an attractive trait. Hollywood gives villains unattractive traits to help make sure the audience conveys certain feelings toward them. I.e people tend to side with good looking people more and you don’t want that with an antagonist

Yes, Hollywood - what horror film doesn't have some bald evildoer running around. The original inspiration for Gibson's film, the 1988, The Last Temptation of Christ didn't portray things with the same effects. But even Jesus Christ Superstar was all about the hair. Even so, who says evil has to be bald?
Devilish good looks are even more frightening.
