Bald Spot

I've been on finasteride for about 6 or 7 months now, and it has been working well. My diffuuse thinning was getting pretty bad, as you could see my scalp under a light when my hair was wet. Anyway, 7 months later on finasteride, it's far better and you can hardly see scalp when my hair is wet, even under a pretty bright light. finasteride has been really doing a good job there. In addition to finasteride, I also use Nizoral.

Anyway, the one aspect that hasn't been improving and seems to be getting worse is my swirl (twirl?) in the back. It appears to be getting bigger and turning into a bald spot. Isn't this supposed to be where finasteride is most effective? Is there anything else I could use to combat this? Please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

That's an odd pattern. So the rest of the hair is thickening?

How often do you use nizoral by the way?

Yeah, I think the rest is thickening. I probably use Nizoral about once every 3 days...or 2 or 3 times per week...

My advice - forget about it for now and evaluate the crown again at the 1 year mark. if there has been no improvement or it looks like it has gotten worse, simply add the minoxidil foam to your regimine.

Hey I'm having almost the exact same problem and I've been on finasteride for roughly 7 months too. So I guess it's kind of good to see that I'm not the only one.

I never really had a problem with my crown until now and I just noticed that there's a pretty bad thinning spot where my swirl is, much like yours. It also got me wondering too b/c I always assumed that was the spot where finasteride was supposed to work best. Unlike your hair though, the rest of my hair has stayed almost exactly the same (except for the areas where I apply minoxidil)

Pleeaasee someone say that this is all just a shed and that it'll grow back in no time!

I thought my crown was getting worse on finasteride up to the 12 month mark. Going on five years later and my crown is the same....keep trucking away as the eye can play tricks on the mind.

yeah, it might just be that since the rest of your hair is getting better, the bald spot may seem to be getting worse... i doubtfully think u could be balding in the crown while recovering the rest since the crown is usually the area best acted on by finasteride. if u want thickening, consider minoxidil, but i'd also wait a few more months.
