Bald spots in my beard!

Hi everyone.

I'm a young man in my late 20's. I eat healthy and go to the gym regularly.

I recently discovered two bald spots in my beard. They're located under my jaw and the biggest is approx. 1 inch in diameter and the smaller one i about ½ inch.

I went to my doctor who just wrote it off as stress and said, that I should relax more - I just think that sounds too easy for him to say that.

Is there anyone else outdoor with the same problem? I'm so afraid it will start spreading.

Oni: Don't be sarcastic please - these bald spots are really getting me down - no need to mock me.

Hm, I can imagine this would be tough, especially if you're very fond of your beard.

I have a friend who experienced something similar (circular bald spot under his chin, slightly off center). If I remember right, he went to the doctor and it ended up being a patch of severely dry skin. He had to shave his beard for awhile (oh no!) and apply a prescription moisturizer in the region for a bit, but eventually it grew back, albeit with slightly different pigmentation.

Does your bald patch feel especially dry and itchy?
If you can't find a solution, there's always the smooth-faced approach. Good luck man!

wbeast: Thank you very much for your reply and support.

Well, concerning dryness, I haven't really noticed, but I guess I'll start giving it some moisture until I can see my dermatologist (2 months wait for an appointment, dammit).

Dryness would take a ton off my mental load at the moment. I'm trying to stay positive, but things like this can really freak me out.

How long did it take to grow back?

hey i read about this somewhere cant remeber what its called but it does usually have to do with stress. if my memory is correct this is suppose to correct itself within 6 months to a year so your gonna have to hang in there. also i think if you go to a derm they can help by injecting some sort of steroide to help speed up the process but i think you shouls look into that first.
good luck

This happened to me. I had two patches, one large one under my chin and one on my cheek. It was nearly a year before it grew back to its original density.

Monkies: How did it grow back? Did it appear as light and fine hair at first, or did the regular hair just appear after all that time?

Of course I'm serious. With the two replies from people who know about the issue, why would I kid around?

I really feel with you guys who have male pattern baldness, but loosing parts of hair almost overnight in ones facial hair isn't what I would call "fun".
