Balding Badly At 30, Looking For Advice.

Hi everyone, I have come for some advice from people who are more knowledgeable and experienced than me!

I am now 30 and have been going bald slowly for the past 5 years or so. It's really denting my confidence and I know I may have to do the big shave off at some point but I really don't think I have a great head for that look and I'm dreading it.

It has been a very slow process and I've tried various things to combat/hide it but the internet is full of many theories so I wanted some advice on what options I have next.

One of my questions is, will I actually lose all my hair at some point or is there any chance it may stop and stay like it is now, based on the pictures shown below? They are very recent, just last week.

I have heard arguments for/against hair transplants and wanted to know if it was worth it for me at this stage (if at all), or do I have to go balder?

I have been lucky so far in that the front of my hair (see pics below) has stayed and since I'm tall this hides it pretty well. In the last couple of years I have started using toppik hair fibers which you sprinkle on and that also hides it incredibly well (attached pic with hair fibers applied). Thought that would be worth sharing for anyone who didn't know about them.

I have recently started using Nizoral and Alpecin shampoos to see if they help after reading good things but again I am not sure as to how effective they will be for me at this point.

Any opinions/advice on what I can do will be gratefully received!

P.S. Also, can't figure out what Norwood stage I am at?!

i would look into dutasteride and hop on minoxdil. also use nizoral 2days a week. you could also use a 1.5mm dermaroller once a week

your pretty bald so i dont know how much you can get back if any.

That's a lot of hair fibres. If I was you I would shave down and see how you look. Also makes it easier to apply topicals.

You will eventually lose the hair on the top of your head and it will be harder to mask with hair fibres. How fast it happens depends on how aggressive it has been for the last five years. You should try the big 3 before considering hair transplants

Try Finasteride first, without Minoxidil (because you can have regrowth without it). If it doesn't work, add Minoxidil later ... and maybe Dutasteride (if no regrowth after a year).

So you first noticed balding 5 years ago but waited until now to try nizoral? Not even rogaine? Dude if you had started finasteride+minoxidil+nizoral like 4 years ago you would have probably kept 95% of ur hair since then.

I agree with the other posters, try finasteride+minoxidil first and then if that doesnt work then only consider transplant if you cant rock the bald. Theres very little chance that Ur hair will stay like this. How is ur family history?

I think that you might be a very good candidate for minoxidil

Hair fibers are truly amazing for diffuse thinners! It won't last for long as you lose more hair though.. Start on finasteride for a year and see how that goes.

I found that hair fibres actually made my hair fall out quicker. I don't think putting extra weight on fragile hairs makes any sense on a daily basis. You need to get on finasteride, ket and Minoxidil as soon as possible.

I think that was all in your head, there's no way hair fibers could cause shedding. Even running your fingers through your hair would put more strain on the strands than fibers. He definitely needs finasteride though, no question about that.

Buzz off those sides and keep the bangs short. Having it that long makes it look worse and makes it more obvious you're balding. Minoxidil used to work for me after 2 years, but now it's seems to be back to what you have now more or less. I just started taking finasteride so i cant comment on that

I would argue with you, but I thought the EXACT same thing when I saw this. My hair loss is not as bad as OP's, but it's getting there, very fast.

OP- like myself, you're living in a prison. Hair fibers / dermatch etc are all HIGHLY detectable when diffused thinning gets bad enough. You NEED to buzz that sh*t down, 2 on the sides, fade up to 4 on the top. I will bet you my kidney (deteriorated from years of drinking alcohol and consuming poisonous hair meds) that you will immediately feel A MILLION times better.

If not, just have the balls that I don't and zero guard your entire head.

two years ago - I could sprinkle a little toppix and look like a full head.

Now - I spend like 5 minutes applying it throughout the entire head, until it cakes my scalp... it won't stick to the hair because there isn't enough.

Put your hair under bright sunlight at a slight angle and take a pic. Have drinks prepared, because you'll be depressed as f*****g hell.

finasteride or dutasteride + minoxidil + nizoral shampoo for 1 year, then reassess your situation. Until then I would not yet be considering a transplant. Especially since you say the loss has been in the last 5 years, you may very well get most or all of it back if you get on meds and have a little patience

Thanks very much for your advice everyone, really appreciate it. I have ordered some Regaine to try that out. Also had a haircut and took the sides down to a 1 and went much shorter on top which has helped.

I am nervous about taking finasteride given the side effects I have read about, I would be interested to hear how you that are taking it have found it?

I’ve been on finasteride for 10 months now and in that time I’ve only forgotten to take my pill once. Beside some occasional fatigue I have experienced no major side effects. Since I started using the Regenepure DR and NT combo I really feel like I’ve made progress. Perhaps not regrowth yet, but my hair quality is great.

I had planned to start minoxidil at the year mark but I’ll be pushing that back at least six months because I want to see how much progress I can make with my present regime. Apparently finasteride results top out after two years.

How are you going to feel when it's definitely too late and you could have taken it? I'm currently on 1 mg per day and don't notice any side effects.
