Balding Or A Silver Fox: What Are My Chances?

Just recently I've started to get a bit paranoid about my hair. My hairdresser recently said I might be going a little thin on top (and overall density isn't as high as he'd like), but I've not been using him for many cuts, so I'm taking his comments with a pinch of salt - he's also bald, so may have an agenda! Nevertheless, he's a hair dresser and spends his life looking at scalps and it's planted a seed in my head and it's making me a little paranoid (which is of course no good for your hair anyway!). I can provide photos later but I just wanted to give you a bit of background as to my situation and perhaps people can tell me their thoughts based on past experience.

I'm 30 years old, I still have a full head of hair. I've always had a double crown at the back of my head and thus it always feels thin around there. My hair happily grows to a long length and I tend to keep it at a medium sort of length (which could perhaps hide any thinning if it was shorter?). I have indentations at the front of my head at either side where my parting is that go in a reasonable distance, but I think I always have and haven't particularly noticed any sort of receding hairline at the front.

One noticeably issue is that I have plenty of grey hair. Since I was about 20, my temple areas have gradually turned greyer and greyer and are now very distinctive. I've plenty of strands of other grey hair elsewhere, though generally maintains a light brown colour. My hair is generally fine in nature (and has been for as long as I can remember), and the greys are very fine as you'd expect.

My maternal grandfather and his brothers were all silver foxes with decent heads of hair up until they died, however my father (and his father) are/were bald. It's worth mentioning that my father was almost completely bald by about the age I am now, and he was not at all grey at that time. Does it sound as though I'm following more towards my maternal side, than my father and paternal side?

I'm entertaining the fact that might hair may be thinning out a bit, but I'm wondering to what extent that is normal and whether that always necessarily means i will go as heavily bald as my father. The fact that it may be thinning at only 30 suggests to me that I couldn't possibly get to 60 with a decent head of hair, but then again, I'm completely clueless as to how these things progress.

If I am thinning a bit at 30, is it likely that it will all go the way of my father, or is a bit of thinning to be expected with my hair type and I'm more likely to go the way of my paternal silver foxes? Stressful times!

Any help would be gratefully received. Thanks.

The third photo shows my hairline / indent where my parting is. Thoughts?

Dude your hair is fine....I'm a decade younger than you and my hair is worse. The grey? Not a big deal as balding. Use "Just for Men."

@Pavi - appreciate that I'm certainly in a much better position than some, and certainly not here to gloat - it's a serious issue for young guys at any age.

The point is, balding has to start somewhere (if at all), and I'm trying to determine whether or not I could be in the early stages, or not. It's certainly not just because I'm greying so much that I fear I'm balding, and I've no problem at all with greying and not looking to cover it up with dye. The photos obviously aren't fantastic and having medium length hair may mask hair thinning a little compare to a shorter cut.

But I'm wondering, based upon what I've already said about my family history, the barber's recent comments and just the generally pattern in which these things happen (if there is ever a pattern!), whether I look like a "typical" guy whose hair is going grey and perhaps lightly thinning to no extreme consequence, or whether thinning at 30 is always a death knell for hair in later life? Can hair thin this early and reach some kind of equilibrium before it becomes too drastic?

When did you start to lose the hair on your temples, did it rise very slowly or is that new recession? Your hair looks good

There is recession there no doubt, very minor but it exists. Your hair overall looks great. The top pic isn't very revealing, we will need to see some more non styled pics, wet and dry. If you are indeed thinning a bit on top it should be very obvious with wet hair.
