Balding or not?

So i'm 19 with a family history of balding on my mothers side.

My uncle started balding in his early twenties unfortunately.

I'm not shedding at all or anything.

But i look at these photos and wonder... is it just a hair whorl, with the hair being parted or what.

thanks !

EDIT:

LOOK AT MY LATEST POST ON THE SECOND PAGE WITH PICTURES

Honestly that doesn't look like balding to me. It COULD be the very start, but I doubt it.

Keep an eye on it.

Also, pay attention to your hairline.

Post some more pictures of your hairline if you can, it's a bit easier for us to diagnose from there under most circumstances

If you do see real thinning at any point immediately get on finasteride before it's too late.

ok heres the hairline pics

honestly i dont know what to think, i couldnt hold all my hair up with one hand so theyre not all vellus hairs or whatever.

but ive always had a big forehead with widows peak (my year 7 teacher kindly pointed that out to me lol) i try and cover it with my justin bieber-esque hair :)

'tis a hair whorl. No male pattern baldness.

Come back in 5 years.

The funny thing is, when i do pick at my crown or anywhere from the top of my head, i get these thin colourless hairs. Rarely but i do. And it makes me think...

imo, that could easily be male pattern baldness, specially after you said your mothers side suffer from it, y should keep an eye and if you notice hairs when showering or on the pillow or lot of hairs falling when you run your hand in it then it could very much be it! be alerted my young friend!!!!

the sad thing is guys, i let it get to me. its still pretty thick and whatnot and no one can see it (i've seen all my asian friends with whorls like that in photos - im not asian obviously lol)

but i got so down and depressed about it you know? like i got a pass for my exam in law school (i wasnt expecting much higher)

i know i should be grateful, which i am but its the fact that it may affect me in a few years time. (it may be male pattern baldness or not)

i just dont wanna be one of those people that get depressed about it and it ends up f*****g up their life. (sorry for the swearing)

had to get it off my chest !

I also notice hairs in the shower too, but my hands arent covered in it like some users report on this site. like i notice it because i look at my hands !

ps is your head supposed to itch with male pattern baldness?

your hair looks alright currently but male pattern baldness does cause itching, so thats not a great sign.

i started thinning at the same age with similar recession. it wasn't that noticeable until i got to 21, then it started getting exponentially worse all over. i didn't get onto meds until later on but since then i think it's plateaued out a bit.

i'd say go to a good dermatologist (many don't know anything about male pattern baldness) and see what they have to say. if i had my time over i would have got on finasteride earlier.

also, i initially felt pretty depressed about the whole thing but with time you come to accept it. my advice would be to not constantly check the state of your hair. i got into a habit of doing it 10+ times a day, it only makes things worse. also avoid concealers (but obviously you don't need them now, and may not even in the future).

good luck

Thanks, i asked the question because I'm not itching at all...i was just reading that people feel like their hair is being attacked. I have nothing of that.

the occasional itch...but anywhere on my head.

the pics of my crown were taking directly under my room (messy room i know) light with my phone, i took it again with very little light and a flash camera and it looked ok.

the hairline is a bit iffy but ive always had a bigger forehead as i said...so i dunno, plus on the right side it was always a little bit further up than the left

i might just wait it out for a couple of months, after my gyno (sigh) surgery.

i dunno maybe i'm just in denial but eh

I think the "male pattern baldness itch" occurs only on the crown, and not on the "horseshoe" donor area.
If you have random little itches on any part of your head, it's not a cause for concern; but if your entire crown itches then maybe you should worry (you'll know when you have the "male pattern baldness itch", it's unmistakable)

I still don't think you have male pattern baldness from those pictures though. You have barely a mature hairline. Do you have a better camera than that?

If you're having Gyno surgery get them to remove the entire gland. Then you can take Finasteride without worrying about Gyno sides :) :hump: :hump: :hump: :hump:

Im pretty sure thats whats happening for the gyno surgery.

Because of gyno, i had to wear jackets all my life to hide it. I just relate this to hairloss and hats. It sucks. Instead of people staring at your hair, they stare at your breasts.

I will post better pics too.

The only thing im concerned about, is sometimes when i play witg my hair, i get this silvery hair that comes out. Its thin and very wavy, if you get what i mean.
