You guys want to know what hormone is good for hair? Progesterone. My girlfriend had a pretty severe estrogen imbalance and her hair suffered because of it. Now, she's on the progesterone only mini pill and her hair is fantastic. It's not brittle, it shines beautifully, and it doesn't look so thin anymore.

as to the lower testosterone higher oestrogen thing. i was under the impression that in a normal body dht is produced when test gets too low, ie when you get old.

i also read somewhere ( not sure where ) that micro dosing of naltrexone at 3 - 5 mg a day both increases testosterone and lowers oestrogen.

Mike,

Thanks for the good find. So: Green Tea Extract, Grape Seed/Resveratrol Extract, Pomegranate Extract, Melatonin, and Chrysin/piperine supposedly reduce estrogen levels. In what dosage/vehicle are these best taken in?

Found 2 paragraphs from wikipedia on melatonin. Does this mean eating rice is bad for hairloss?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melatonin

Melatonin is also synthesized by various plants, such as rice, and ingested melatonin has been shown to be capable of reaching and binding to melatonin binding sites in the brains of mammals.[5][6]

Role in immune system

The body of research is overwhelmingly supportive of the claim that melatonin boosts the immune system[17] thereby helping to fight many diseases[18].

Melatonin is an immunoregulator that enhances T cell production somewhat. When taken in conjunction with calcium, it is a very potent immunostimulator of the T cell response. Due to these immunoregulatory effects, it is used as an adjuvant in many clinical protocols; conversely, the increased immune system activity may aggravate autoimmune disorders.

Doctor, what are the dangers of finasteride/propecia to the brain, if the only 5ar present in the brain is type 1? Also (to everyone) , finasteride lowers dht levels in the body causing estrogen to become more expressed which causes a lot of the side effects associated with finasteride. According to the article, won't taking these natural estrogen blockers minimize the side effects of finasteride?

The presence or lack of presence of 5AR enzymes is of little consequence. The majority of steriod hormones that impact the brain come from the periphery and cross the blood brain barrier. That's why the inhibition of 5AR type II in the periphery is of concern as it prevents the creation of allopregnanolone, a neuroactive steroid.

Correlation vs. causation is often very different. It's the same reason why many non-balding people think people like me are balding because i don't "sleep enough and wear hats too often". When in fact the reason i can't sleep is because i'm thinking about hairloss and the reason i wear a hat is to hide the hairloss.

yeah i figured it was probably crap just like most theories other then DHT. Its easy to throw out stupid theories when science still knows so little.
