Barbers...

I'm pretty much bald on top with just the "halo" around the sides and back. I normally buzz myself all over with a #1 guard every few days. I travel quite a bit for work normally taking my clippers with me, however, this time I forgot to pack them. I found a barbershop near my hotel and went in and asked for just a #1 all over. How hard can that be? Well, in addition to the #1 the barber also decided to taper the areas right above my ears as well as at the hairline at my neck to what looks like a zero guard. To begin with, this isn't what I asked for...the taper, which is essentially making my remaining hair even shorter and making me look even more bald. In my opinion this tapering just aged me even more into "the old bald guy haircut" Sorry, I know I'm venting, but it's just frustrating when barbers don't listen to you and instead do this to whatever little hair you have left. I know I'm bald, but I don't need to walk around with the old bald guy hairstyle. Just a simple buzz. In a few days I'll be home again and it will have grown out a little more by than so...

I hear ya, man.

I'm at the stage where i have to grow my hair at the top pretty long and keep it short at the sides to give myself some fake density. Even then the diffuse is clear but much less obvious than it otherwise would be.

I let my brother do my back and sides and i look after the top.

I went to a lady barber a year ago and i told her clearly to do a 2 at the sides and leave plenty on top. The b**ch practically left me bald I could have strangled her. No barbers for me in the near future unless it's a private one who knows my situation (unlikely that'll happen).

lol yeah, my grandmother is cutting my hair. She didn't have any previous experience with it, but she's better than any hairdresser I've been to. That's enough said. They never listen to what you're saying, and they're too busy talking. I don't know what I had done without her.

heres a tip for u. forget barbers, hairdressers etc. imo they only make things worse with all the combing, rearranging and manipulating, each time u go, u come back with less hair. And like this poor fellow they always fuk it up, and show little regard to the plight of the balding man.

do it urself.

get a 'wahl' brand set of clippers. With this brand u can buy up to a 12 blade for it from shaving shops. (other brands have different connection)

then u can easily shave ur head, but keep it up to 2 inchs long, which would normally need sissors.

i just use a 12 all over, then use a 10 and 8 around the sides. I dont have to comb it over and over again and rip half of it out like some mofo hairdressors do.

@Captain..Yeah, I guess a red flag to me should have been when I walked into the barbershop and saw that the barber who not lonly looked twice my age, but was also bald as well. After I read your post I sorta had to laugh..I guess the barber pretty much gave me the same haircut he himself has lol
At least my "halo" isn't gray like his! lol

I stopped going to barbers as well after a while. I was sick fed up coming out of them looking and feeling like shite because the barber had it too short.

Thinking of barbers. Has anyone ever told a barber, that the haircut was awful and not what they asked for?
I haven't but surely someone has had a run in with a barber on this forum.

All the tips above are good.
I've got some Wahl's. They are are pretty decent. My sister-in-law is a hairdresser (she is actually a good one, I just find it easier to cut my own hair) says they are a decent brand for 'beginners'.

I've found what I call 'the extended high and tight' cut is quite good on a NW3-4 and can make you look good. If you grow the top hair a bit maybe 3-4 inches and then shave the sides. It doesn't need to be shaved with a razor at the sides, but trim it so it's less dense than the hair on top.

I've been shaving my head for the last few months and I don't mind the look so will no doubt go back to it at somepoint, but I want to grow my hair out to see what shape exactly it is in.
The worst part of going from a shaved head to growing hair back in is the waiting, and for me being a NW3 with diffuse and seeing how sh*t it looks after 3-4 weeks when it's attempting to grow in. Even now, I'm 5 weeks into growing it - I shave the sides as they grow quicker and it instantly looks better with them being trimmed.
