shedding like crazy... it's gone up seriously like a half an inch in about a month. This burning sensation like doesn't go away on my frontal. I don't understand why this is happening all the sudden. Where there is hair, there is lots of it. Is it all going to fall out at this rate? I think my hairline has gone up more in a month than it has in 5 years total. No joke. I'm thinking of maybe going back to propecia? I used propecia about 4 months before I started Proscar. I gave up on propecia because I was sick of the cost. Those 4 months that I used nothing... I didn't lose much hair at all but I wanted to try something again. So I got Mercks Proscar because it's cheaper. I've always used Nizoral Shampoo and I gave up on Rogaine a couple years ago because it was a pain and caused irritation. I cut my proscar in 4's and have one every day. If anyone has any tips or knowledge why this is happening all the sudden please let me know. Thanks

You need to be consistent, your post is a maze of on and off treatments.

When you stop using finasteride, it may take many weeks, even months for the hair that finasteride saved/grew to be lost to DHT.

so you may have started Proscar, but your system is still responding to the 4 month finasteride droubt.

Also sorry to be so harsh, but if issues like cost and convienience are stopping you staying with the treatments you may lose the battle in the long run.

good luck

I don't know how else to put it man... basically I was on Propecia for awhile then I stopped for a couple months. I then went to Proscar/Mercks and have been using it the past 5 months with no problems until now. It's like a sort of itch and burn where my hairline is receding and it seems to keep going up and up. So should I just stay on the Proscar and Nizoral and hope for the best? I'm just wondering why all the sudden this is happening. It's been probably 8-10 months from when I stopped taking Propecia. I was only on propecia for a couple months to begin with. Isn't this is a little long for this to happen all at once?

Bingo. Inconsistency will throw your hormones out of whack every time you do it, then you start the clock all over again. You didn't mention that you completely stopped any treatment for a couple months in your first post. That is a major factor. Especially if you've only been on it for a few months in the first place.

Consider this your initial shed. You started over.

Yes. The itch and burn is a little confusing. How often do you use Nizoral? I spoke to another guy who was using Nizoral every other day and another dandruff shampoo on the off days ... basically 7 straight days of medicated shampoos, and he was having burning too. Its too much. You only need nizoral and you only need it once every 3 days...

You completely stopped treatment for a full two months. You basically started over. At this time consider yourself "on finasteride for 5 months" period. What you did with Propecia isn't part of this picture. You're also taking a quarter mg more than you were before, and everyone is different. Maybe this will cause a greater shed for you. I was very very sensitive to finasteride doses. I could tell the diff between 0.5mg and 1mg simply by measuring my body's response to it.

Stick with the finasteride, take it every day consistently, only use nizoral once every 3 days.

well my ex convinced me I didn't need it any more... she always thought I was stupid for thinking I was losing my hair.

So it won't grow back?

You remember that shampoo called ice? It sort of has that feeling of burn/freeze... it's wierd. I do use Nizoral every other day or sometimes a couple days in a row. The itch sometimes just has that poking feeling in the places where my hair seems to be shedding.

I will continue to take Finasteride (Proscar) and cut them in 4's.. is that ok? I'll do the 3 days a week Nizoral also.
