Been Taking Propecia Since October 25, 2005

I started taking 1 mg of Propecia beginning October 25, 2005. I was 54 at the time and just beginning to experience thinning in the crown with a receding hairline.

Now, two years later, Propecia has completely stopped my hair loss and a good increase in hair growth has occurred all over the top of my previously thinning scalp and even my frontal hairline has experience some re-growth. Of course, the receding hairline at the temples remains free of hair. The "new" hair is normal looking and no longer has that thin look from being miniaturized by DHT. Please note that the Propecia started working for me quickly.

Initially, I incorporated 5% Rogaine with the Propecia and tried that combination for about a year. But I got sick of the Rogaine and stopped. I saw no impact with terminating the Rogaine and doubt the Rogaine did any good anyway.

Probably the key here was that I started taking the Propecia before significant hair loss occurred in the crown area. There was still enough hair on top of my head that could be "re-vitalized" by the Propecia. It was just beginning to thin and was noticeable after the hair was wet. I could see the beginning of circular balding area.

I have so far experienced no side effects other than I have noticed my sex drive has increased! I like this one! Perhaps the increase in free circulating testosterone has re-energized the libido of this "old fart" of almost 57! Since Propecia blocks 5 Alpha Reductase from converting testosterone to DHT, I may have some more testosterone "surging" through my body! Just a guess!

Propecia can work even for older men like myself and stop further hair loss and even stimulate DHT damaged hair follicles into producing more cosmetically acceptable hair. I doubt I will experience any more "new hair growth", but I am completely satisfied with the results I have achieved in 2 years with Propecia.

Whether the Propecia will continue to work for me remains to be seen. Maybe Propecia eventually "burns outs" and the DHT starts to slowly build up again after many years use. I don't know. But so far, so good and I am pleased when I can comb the top of my hair and see a good density and no defined balding area in the crown.

Hey, a good news story - well done! :bravo:

Like you I got sick of Rogaine pretty quickly. There is some evidence that Rogaine plus Propecia is better than either alone, but I don't think that the extra hassle of slathering a foam or lotion over your head twice a day is worth it.

Dr. Rassman over at baldingblog reckons that Propecia can temporarily increase sex drive... he says he's seen this advantageous side effect in about 10 per cent of his patients.

Good for you buddy :punk:

I am half your age and took propecia for almost a year...the drug destroyed my crown and ate through my hairline. I have lost about half my density. Now that I have been off it for a week, shedding has gone down significantly. For me Propecia was the worst decision I ever made. I even tolerated the bloody side-effects for almost a year just in the hope that my hairloss would stop and I would see things improve.

Anyway just venting, each time I hear a finasteride success story I feel like such a fukin failure.....I am glad it worked for you.

That's great to hear so congratulations. I'm only 20 but have been taking finpecia for a month now. At the moment I'm just riding out a shed and won't give any evaluation as to whether the drug is successful until after at least 6 months. I'm also using Rogaine foam on my hairline but am considering stpping due to the hassle...

As for sex drive the only side effect I've had (if you can call it that) is that mine has certainly increased! I was worrying about whether to start the treatment due to some of the less-than-pleasant stuff you here but so far, so good.

When I hear stories like yours it actually gives me hope this treatment will work so thanks for taking the time. Maybe in a year or two I'll be joining your ranks...!

Been on Finpecia .5 for around 9 months now. I also use Rogain Foam 2x a day. I have definitely noticed that my hair does not fall out anywhere near what it used to. Actually the balding process may have stopped completely, but I dont want to jinx myself by claiming that. Weird but great side effect is my back hair has literally disappeared. I normally needed to shave my shoulders and back once a week, but now I trim it like once evry two months.
