Best Hair System/bonding Option For Hidden Hairline?

I am after using a hair system with good longevity without compromising too much on realism.

I don’t plan to have an exposed hairline and aim to clean the system every 1-2 weeks thus would like it to be low maintenance.

Would a lace (Swiss) base system with tape around the whole perimeter be the best option?

Thank you in advance for your replies.

Hi Jamie

My feeling is that your hairline needs to be able to withstand some level of scrutiny even if you don't plan to have it on permanent view. There are times when you are walking into a strong wind, or you are lying back on a couch, and your hairline is going to be visible. It has to look natural on those occasions if you want to keep private the fact that you are wearing.

Ordinary tape is, in my view, too thick and visible for a hairline. However there is one exception, which is Walkers 3-mil thin lace support tape. It is not tape in the conventional way - more like semi-solid glue sold in a tape format. Once you remove the backing paper there is only adhesive left - no polythene film. It is fine enough for a hairline.

So a Swiss lace base with 3-mil tape at the hairline and a normal tape around the rest of the perimeter would be a good easy maintenance solution.

I agree with Noah, however, I don't use the Lace Support thin at the hairline since it cleans up like glue. I use Walkers no-shine, and it works fine. My hairline is unexposed, but when it does get revealed, wind, etc... it looks fine.

Thanks guys for the advise.

Are the Swiss lace visible by eye on the scalp (crown area)? I only ask because I will be going for a medium/low density system. With poly UTS you can’t tell on close inspection.

Also what tapes do you recommend for the perimeter? I’m aware this depends on individual skin type etc.

Hi, just a comment on your original post, if you want longevity, swiss lace wont provide that. realism, yes.

have a look at various supplier info.. longevity AND undetectability doesn't exist in the hair piece world...

just trying to provide you with sound advice and manage expectations..

possibly a french lace unit with poly side and back would be a good choice, should 3-4 months depending on density you choose.
I suggest poly side/back as easier for attachment-detachment, tape removal, etc..in my case ( lace with poly side-back) I use a combo of ghostbond at front and easy green or duo-tak tape for sides back.

If you have a low density system with a defined crown, and someone is very close to you looking right down on your crown (i.e. 3 or 4 inches away) they could possibly spot the mesh. You would have to be a bit unlucky, but it is possible. I suppose that could happen if you have a desk job and people come and stand behind you while you are seated. Or the other place where people are in that close proximity is if you are on a plane or a bus.

If you have that sort of low density unit and you want to wear a lace base, it would be worth ordering a custom unit which has a poly/thinskin insert running underneath the crown and the parting (if you have one). That gives an excellent result.

As for tapes, I use Walkers No-Shine for the back and sides of my lace unit, and I am quite happy with it. All the Walker products are pretty good.

@Noah's standards are amazingly high when it comes to undetectability.

I considered the 3-mil glue/tape, but as @BaldBearded noted, I just don't want to incur that sort of mess.

I wear my hairline partly exposed. I have some up, some down. I think it looks very natural. That said, if I pull my hair back entirely & reveal a non-graduated, unplucked hairline, it's obvious I am wearing a wig (Wall of Hair).

Despite wearing for years, YouTube's StickOnHair almost invariably has unnatural hairlines when he brushes back.

I have a low-density system, and people have looked right at the crown... and don't see the lace.

I have been using the Lace Front Support, thin... and the hairline is really undetectable!
