What do you all think the best non-finasteride hair growth regimine would be, based on proven results by multiple people, not just your own personal experience?

I'm very uneasy about going back on propecia despite the moderate results I had on the drug. (For a variety of reasons I won't get into on this thread). So I'm looking for the 'next best thing' in terms of regimines that have some proven results.

I've just started a regimine of:

-Laser Comb 3x week for 15 minutes each time.
-Nizoral 2% 3x week.
-Multi-vitamen daily
-Considering: minoxidil 5%

Any help would be much appreciated.

If i could not take propecia then i would get on RU 58841, i've seen proven results with this topical, impressive, but hard stuff to get hold of and you have to do a bit of amateur chemistry by mixing it.

I don't know to much about it but it's worth researching. :)

Good question, I too saw great results on finasteride but unable to cope with the sides, minoxidil is no good for me either.

If there was a treatment "based on proven results by multiple people, not just your own personal experience?" I'm pretty sure we would all know about it.

finasteride is not a better choice then minoxidil not by a long shot. one with finasteride is actually fighting the battle of baldness minoxidil is just covering it short term with added peach fuzz. if you have side affects on finasteride id use proxiphen by dr proctor. minoxidil will not cut it for majority of people more then 2 years. Yes there is always super responders on minoxidil on it for 5 or so years but majority will not maintain.

I agree on the Proxiphen. I'm surprised that wasn't one of the very first things mentioned in this thread!

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but while we are on the topic, is there anything that contains similar ingredients as proxiphen for a cheaper price? I really want to try it out but I dont think I will be able to afford it right now.

Not really. You could try and come somewhat close by using spironolactone, minoxidil, Prox-N, and topical Phenytoin, but just the thought of using all of those topicals in combination makes me sleepy.

Well, he could use the non-prescription Prox-N, which is cheaper than Proxiphen. It even has some of the same "turbocharged" SODs that Proxiphen has (Tempo/Tempol, and/or PBN), although it obviously doesn't have phenytoin, minoxidil, or spironolactone.

Proxiphen looks like a scam to me. Just because a doctor slaps his name on some product who is to say that works? What proof really is there any of this stuff like these copper peptides and all this really works? I mean I can claim lots of things help at the cellular level to fight baldness, but what does it really prove? The big 3 or really big 2 propecia and rogain is the only way to try if they dont work I would personally just save my money and wait.

Haven't you read about the clinical trials with copper-peptides?

I don't have them in electronic format, but here's an excerpt from an old post of mine from alt.baldspot in which I gave a brief description of them.

Oops... I goofed. They weren't published in a medical journal, they were published in the book "Dermatologic Research Techniques", CRC Press, 1996.

They are three consecutive chapters in the book:

Chapter 16: "Phototrichogram Analysis of Hair Follicle Stimulation: A Pilot Clinical Study with a Peptide-Copper Complex" Ronald E. Trachy, Leonard M. Patt, Gordon M. Duncan, and Bernard Kalis. This was done on *human* subjects with male pattern baldness. Both total and anagen hair density increased significantly (anagen hair: +39%) with the larger topical dose of copper-peptide (glycyl-histidine-lysine-valine-phenyalanine-valine), especially when compared to total and anagen hair density LOSSES in the placebo-treated group.

Chapter 17: "Quantitative Assessment of Peptide-Copper Complex-Induced Hair Follicle Stimulation Using the Fuzzy Rat" Ronald E. Trachy, Hideo Uno, Shelley Packard, and Leonard M. Patt. This was done on rats. Copper peptides significantly stimulated hair growth, compared to vehicle.

Chapter 18: "Evaluation of Telogen Hair Follicle Stimulation Using an In Vivo Model: Results with peptide-Copper Complexes" Ronald E. Trachy, Erika D. Timpe, Irene Dunwiddie, and Leonard M. Patt. This was on mice. Copper peptides significantly stimulated hair growth in mice, compared to vehicle; it also exceeded the growth induced by 2% topical minoxidil, which was also tested.

I am no longer using minoxidil and doing fine with proxiphen and revivogen. I still take Propecia but I don't think its doing much for my hairline but the proxiphen and revivogen are still giving me regrowth at the hairline. I shed so much less now since I stopped minoxidil which caused me to retain water which is a negative side effect. I have seen enough positive posts from Proxiphen or Prox-n that I don't need any studies to sway me to not use it. You just have to try it to see. If you can't afford to try it then by all means don't.
