Best Protein Shakes?

Hi guys,

A little bit about me: I used to play a lot of sports when I was younger but always was a lanky build. I have been wanting to bulk up and get some muscles for a few years but have only just recently done something about it. I have been drinking a protein shake every day for the past few months (with a few missed days) with no real results. About a month ago I started boxing and I have seen a change in my body but nothing extreme. Just muscles where there weren't muscles (around my back) but I havn't increased in size yet.

The only advice I have had is from my local health store. I just asked what their opinion of the best product would be to increase both fat and muscle and they suggested NutraLife Massive Weight Gainer. But I havn't found it to put on much weight, if any. I understand that I won't put on huge amounts of muscle without going to the gym (which I will start going to after the 29th). But I would like to start putting on fat that I can convert into muscle as soon as possible.

I understand that the health shop people won't be very qualified which is why I want a second opinon.

I am going to see a personal trainer at the gym on Monday (the 29th) so hopefully they will be able to help me out further. But I also fear that they will have a contract with a producer and will push whatever product they are contracted to and not necessarily the best one for me.

Ultimately, I am wanting to put on fat AND muscle. I am also about to start on Finasteride so I am wanting reduce messing with my hormones.

Please feel free to add your opinions and/or point me towards a discussion board like this one, but focused on body building.

Thanks.

Back before the days of minoxidil and finasteride - I got a recipe out of Hairloss Help kind of book for shakes that were supposed to be healthy for your hair.

Blender ingredients included:

yogurt
apples
bananas
vanilla extract
honey
wheat germ
black jack syrup

- and something akin to wheat germ which I can't recall right now.

I did 1 - 2 glasses per day for years.

Thanks for your reply but I want something to increase body size. I think the drugs will sort out my hair by themselves.

The other two replies: You guys are great. Someone asks for advice and you try to make wise cracks that aren’t even funny. A+. Almost as intelligent as VWDude that suggests Emu oil whenever someone wants hair advice. Good way to make the new members of this forum feel welcome...

He wasn't trying to be an ***. Muscle Milk is a protein shake, and a very good one at that, especially for bulking up. I would also recommend Mega Milk, Mass Meal, or good old fashioned, inexpensive Optimum Nutrition 100% Gold Standard Whey. Creatine (Monohydrate or Ethyl Ester) can also be useful for bulking up, and also comes cheap.

Welcome to the forum. Despite what you might think right now, this is a good crowd and we pull for each other. It's a good place to find answers.

Cytosport Muscle Milk, dickie. You can order from http://www.bodybuilding.com, http://www.bulknutrition.com, etc. You're very welcome.

D.

Sorry for jumping the gun on you. "Muscle Milk" didn't sound like a legit product and then the post after yours...

I'll see if I can get Cytosport products in New Zealand.

I will definately check out those two sites though, thanks for them.

Yeah, the majority of people are good, gourmetstylewellness.com seems to reply to every thread.

I just get annoyed with discussion boards. There are always a few people who think that they can crack jokes at new members expense.

not me!

Haha. Funny. Muscle Milk is supposed to be pretty good, though. I currently use N-Large II.

It really doesn't matter which shale you use. Just make sure to take it right after a workout, ie within 30 minutes.

I'm currently just having one every night about 2 hours after dinner as a "2nd dinner".

Should I also have one after each workout?

I use EAS whey or soy protein powder. The soy taste better, also i prefer chocolate as opposed to the vanilla. I blend it up with water, ice and 2 scoops of peanut butter. Delicious! Yeah its vital that you drink it before every work out then have a meal. Helps muscles regenerate, or so I was told! :D

Just like drinkrum said: Muscle Milk.

this is one of the best tasting protein mixes i have tried and is excellenct for gaining mass. Right now im trying to get through my 5lb tub of isopure. I wasnt really impressed with this, it takes a while to mix and most of the time it doesnt dissolve completley (and i let it sit for 15 min).

Ive tried myoplex and i liked that one, but after i get thru this isopure im going for the muscle milk.
