Hey all
first off a little background...
31 years of age, been thinning / balding since early 20's albeit slowly and i'd say i'm about a Norwood 2.5 with thinning crown but very strong front. Treatments up until present day have been 1) Tricomin up until a few years ago 2) then dropped it and used Regaine foam 5% in the morning and Revivogen at night. Results were good for the first few months and even had some crown regrowth, then got a bit greedy and started applying min twice per day and dropping the revivogen at the crown, this induced a shed but it did seem to recover weeks later, so been on Min for a year and a half.
So my current regimen is Min 5% on crown and hairline in the morning, and then Min 5% in crown and revivogen at hairline in the evening (odd i know)
Up until a about 3 weeks ago i was maintaining well, but since then have been experiencing a big shed at the crown, not so much at the hairline and front which still looks strong, in fact when i style the front i don't look like the sort of person who has crown thinning, almost a bit like Zinedine Zidane but i have less crown loss!
Now about 1 month ago i was diagnosed with gout in my big toe, effing painful!! And has surprised everyone that knows me because i'm 31, athletic build, weight train 5 times a week etc, so the general comments when i told people were "huh? I though gout was for old and fat people who binge drink and eat venison?"
I believe the gout was caused by my high (and repetitive) protein diet and probably too much alcohol on a weekend all of which have not changed for many years, so here's my first question...
1) i have quite dramatically changed my diet, it wasn't bad before but i pretty much ate the same thing everyday, and had hardly any fruit and veg, just lots of the wrong carbs and protein. In the last 3 weeks i have been eating really healthy and still maintain high protein, but have switched to wholemeal bread, eating more eggs, and the big thing is i'm eating alot of fruit and veg everyday (especially raw carrot) , increased my water intake and reduced my alcohol intake...
And of course in these 3 weeks my hair has gone to sh*t, and part of my optimistic self is telling me that MAYBE the change in diet for the good has induced a shed and making way for healthier hair?? Is this possible?? Wishful thinking probably :-(
I'm aware the the realistic situation is that it is just the MPG making it's fecking miserable course across my scalp all that more prominent..
So this brings me to finasteride, i have purchased 1 months worth of Propecia 1mg, and because of the usual thing us balding nervous wrecks do - i have read all the horror stories on here, and some on that other website propeciahelp.....eurgh...
I'm determined to just give the damn thing a go for 1 month, but my big question is...
What would be the best starting dose to reduce sides and have some benefit to my hair..
1) 0.25mg every day
2) 0.5mg on Mon/Weds/Fri
I would obviously increase the dose if i tolerate it well to start with..
P.s. I take all the usual vitamins etc...
Sorry for the length of the post, felt i needed to provide some background..
Cheers!!
