Went to my Doctor today, and got him to agree to give me a 1 year prescription for generic 5mg finasteride, went to Walmart here in Canada and paid $38.19 for basically 5 month supply, according to cutting each pill into 5 pieces.
Have started to use Nizoral, will update my progress as the months go by.

May eventually start using Rogaine foam too come the summer, to what results I will get then.

Wish me luck..

See attached pictures of where I'm at now

Hey good luck with finasteride hopefully you respond well to it. I just have one question, I live in Canada too, north Toronto to be exact, I went to the doctor about 2 weeks ago and he said a year's supply of finasteride would cost me 1,200 dollars a year. I was wondering what brand of finasteride did your doctor prescribe you as 10 dollars or less per month is very affordable for me. Could you possibly post pictures of the bottle or box it came in. Thanks for you help man, best of luck with your hair.

Ok so first of all tell your doctor you do not, I mean do not want Propecia!! It is so ridiculously overpriced it's retarded. I used to be one of the herd too, and would pay $70/month for a months supply of finasteride(Propecia)

If you go to your doctor and explain that you would like a prescription for Generic Finasteride in the 5mg pill form, and explain that you intend to cut up the pills into quarters. Which works out to 1.25 mg/day. Which is just like taking daily propecia only you're not getting raped by the pharmaceutical company Merck!

Not only is it 5 times cheaper, but your drug plan if you have one, will likely cover some of the cost I paid $38.90 for 30 tablets(5mg) at Walmart and that's before my drug plan even kicked in for generic finasteride. I actually have a $75 deductible on my health plan, so I'll be interested to see what I'll pay when I go back for my next 30 pills. This will end up lasting about 4 months, so yeah you're paying 1/2 the price of what you would have paid for only 1 month of propecia!!!!

The whole reason I stopped taking finasteride before is because it was too damn expensive but not anymore!!

Good luck Bro! I'm sure your going to do great! :bravo:

Thanks man!!!

I'll be interested to see if I have any regrowth at all without using Rogaine, but if need be I'll start using that real soon, once my pay raise kicks in.

I can't believe how dumb I and a lot of people are who pay full price for Propecia, it's a crime that they feel they can overcharge people by such a huge sum of money, just because of what it's being used for, obviously the cost to make the drug is minimal.

Ah well eventually everyone will catch on and they'll be forced to reduce the price or end up going out of business due to everyone switching to generic 5mg pill form.

Merck probably made enough money from their finasteride patent period to keep them in business for the next hundred years. It's insane how much money drug companies make, especially from something like finasteride. I'm still pretty sure 90% of finasteride users are still buying brand-name propecia because they don't ever research on the internet.

You say you are going to try rogaine foam; have you seen it anywhere in Canada? I don't ever even see minoxidil in stores up here. I heard that you need a prescription for 5% minoxidil, which is the concentration in the foam. I would like to try the stuff if I could frigging buy it.

Funny thing is, 2% nizoral is sold OTC here, unlike in the states. Costco sells 2 bottles for $15.. The stuff lasts forever also, i'm not even half way through my first bottle and I started using it in November.

I'm going to order the 3 pack of Rogaine foam off of this website, they will ship to Canada, you'll end up paying $60 for 3 months supply.

I got my Nizoral at Wal-mart cost $10 for one bottle and yeah it's the 2% stuff haven't even seen the 1% stuff here.

I really don't understand why the hell you still need a prescription for a bloody topical solution, they do sell it here Rogaine that is I saw it wal-mart the other day behind the counter.

Let me know if it arrives; i've heard customs often seizes minoxidil shipments from the states. Canada has extremely strict drug importation laws, so let me know if it works! That's cheap though, which is promising.

I guess thats why I didn't see it; its behind the pharmacy counter? I felt weird getting my finasteride prescription filled by the cute young pharmacy chick.. I would feel even more weird asking for the minoxidil!

Just think of them as doctors which they pretty much are, you wouldn't be embarrassed to talk about these things to you doctor would you??

As far as the shipment to Canada for rogaine and having it seized, I highly doubt they would advertise we ship to Canada and not mention that it may get seized if this was happening on a regular basis.

Besides it comes in discrete packaging, so I doubt there would be a hold up but I guess time will tell.

No, I don't think Merck has made all that much money from finasteride.

How do you figure?? They charge $70 for 1 months supply and it's practically the go to prescription whenever you bring up hairless to your doctor.

So let's say you were to personally spend $840/ year on propecia multiply that figure by the remaining years of your life, then multiply that figure by the amount of people taking propecia in the world today and you'll reach a staggering sum of money.

I'm sure they are doing just peachy right now.

Alright, Yeah I asked my doctor about that and he said that he wouldn't proscribe that to me cause he says he could get sued for fraud or some non-sense like that....(like really who's gonna find out). So I'm just gonna go to my friends shifty doctor and I think he'll give it to me. Thanks for your help man.

The sale of Propecia by Merck and Rogaine by Upjohn have been big disappointments for those companies over the years. The numbers you mention above may sound really good to us lowly commoners, but they don't mean much to Big Pharma, who desire MUCH MUCH more income than that from their products! :)

How is this fraud, he is prescribing you exactly the same drug??? Which happens to work for both BPH and hairloss, sounds like that doctor of yours might have stock in Merck, lol.
Makes no sense to me how the big drug companies think it's ok to charge 5 x as much for exactly the same drug in the 1mg form, it quite frankly disgust me.

But anyways good luck with the other doctor, go in there feeling confident they're going to give it to you, same way you would approach a women when you wanna get Jiggy with it, and I'm sure they won't hesitate to give it to you.

Good luck :punk:
