Big name brands vs generic brands

Hi All

I happened to stumble across this forum yesterday out of sheer luck and I have to say I have never been happier finding a website. Having read the success stories, I am now hopeful that I might be able to restore some of my hairloss and build up my confidence again. So firstly, to all the people posting their stories and regiments, thank you kindly.

Now that I have been able to get some research done, I have decided to pretty much follow the exact regiment as the most successful members on this forum so I will be purchasing Minoxodil, Finastaride and also looking into a few shampoos. Whilst I was surfing the web, I came across several different brand names for both minoxodil and propecia which has left me a little confused.

My question to you guys is, are there any differences in effectiveness or side affects between the big brands (Regaine, Propecia, etc) and the generic brands (Kirkland, Finpecia, etc). I am very close to buying Kirkland as apparently it is manufactured by Pfizer, but before I do I was hoping to get some feedback from here. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Buying Propecia or generic finasteride from a pharmacy its basically the same, only cheaper. Some ppl complain about Finpecia though. Choosing between rogaine or kirkland is also the same thing.

I don't trust generics and I don't buy any of that crap. I suggest you do the same.

I'm sure there are many legitimate companies out there, but there's a lot of crap too. When it comes to my health, I don't take any chances - even if that means paying a bit more.

Yeah I know exactly what you mean and thats pretty much why Im asking the question. Im hoping to find out if anyone has had personal experience with the generic products and can advise on how they find the products. Sometimes this stuff works and its worth while trying to find out as it can save a few pennies. :)

I currently use generic finasteride and have used Kirkland and many other generic brands of minoxidil and have detected no difference from name brand products.

I am also fairly new to this site however spent a fair time 'lurking' prior to my first post. From what I tell, most users on gourmetstylewellness.com recommend the following: -

Proscar 5mg or Finpecia (Cheaper than Propecia)
Kirkland Minoxidal 5% (Produced by Phizer (sp), contains same ingrediants as Rogaine but cheaper)
Nizoral 2% Shampoo

I have been following the above for 11 days now, although it's too early for signs of improvement I can tell you that my hair feels better although this is probs most from the nizoral.

As for sides, I have experienced a slight pain in my right testicle (known as blue balls) however the pain isnt that bad that I notice plus it goes away from time to time. From what I have read not everyone experiences sides and for those that do, they often go away after continued use of finasteride.

I purchase my products from inhousepharmacy as again they are recommended throughout the forum.

Ultimately it is your decision but I have found no problems using generics, just like many other gourmetstylewellness.com posters.

Good luck in whater you choose.

Hi GJC

Did a quick search and you are definitely right about a majority of the members recommending these products. I will be aiming to buy these products some time this week.

Thanks very much for your detailed post.

Cheers
