Im on the verge of breaking tables now. So I'll take the educative way out on this.

Heres my story

1 year ago, my hair line receded to a small M shape. My hair was thinner than previous years, but nothing to go "ouuff" about. So I started minoxidil to regrow my hair line. After 1.5 months of use, it regrew.. I was satisfied, stopped using it.. got over it.

(Please no minoxidil dep hairs fall out bla bla.. i know all this.. BUT)

From when I stopped.. months later I started shedding... and shedding... and and now past few months REALLY SHEDDING.

Im laughing at people who are complaining at losing 15 hairs in the shower. Last night I counted my hair loss in the shower.... I stopped at 95.

Yes, that bad. And its showing.. I went from looking nowhere near bald to able to see my whole NW7 outline in the light.

So if minoxidil has done this.. why is it taking so long to recover? Will it recover?

ALSO, I started minoxidil again 1 month ago. f***!

Whats to do?

minoxidil will help grow your hair that's a fact. But once you stop those hairs will shed. They won't come back.

That's why you have to keep taking minoxidil until you die, or until you are not bothered about your hair anymore.

That's not true. Hair that is REGROWN, as in it wasn't there before that is Minoxidil Dependant, will more than likely be lost. Existing hair that has been thickened by Minoxidil will return to baseline.

Stopping Minoxidil can induce a shedding of most of these hairs. I do not think that 1.5 months of use would effect your that much as the telogen (shedding phase) of hairs can last up to 100 days. You would have still had hair in telogen with or without. minoxidil can induce a shedding of the hairs in telogen.

Fact is, you shouldn't have quit so soon.

*sighs*

I KNOW you lose the hair you grew with minoxidil, as Im sure we all do.

Problem is.. Im losing hair I NEVER used minoxidil on. Back and sides have thinned.. sides much noticeable.. and my top is RIDICULOUS

Around the whole top of my head my hair has gone so thin, it looks dead.

In a matter of just less than 12 months, I've gone from NW1 to a NW4 shapeline.

this means your male pattern baldness is aggressive. get on finasteride or dutasteride.

well it really depends on time. considering the cycle of follicles i guess 3-6 months? that would be your ballpark figure of waiting for shed hair to return. someone has a graph of it on this messageboard but it was about a year or 2 ago so i'm not gonna go looking for it

I actually had the same experience and posted my situation a while back. I went from receeding at the temples, to severe thinning in the crown and overall top. Although I eventually stopped using Rogaine, because I felt I wasn't gaining enough to make it worth it. I only knew what was sold in stores at the time and PPG irritated the hell out of me. A year later and BAM, I looked in the mirror and was shocked.. I didn't even think it was possible to lose hair that fast.

I started back on 5% but the PPG was once again limiting me to only using 1x/day due to irritation. I've since switched to 15% PPG-Free Xandrox, but my worst fear is quickly becoming reality. Lots of blonde (non-terminal) hairs, but nothing permanant looking. I'm only a month and half in though, so we'll see what the next couple months bring.
