Blood test results

So i got some bloods done BEFORE starting propecia. Unfortunately these were done 12 months ago so not as ideal as testing right before starting propecia 2 weeks ago. Normal ranges in brackets. I am 38.

Oestradiol 168 pmol/L (<146) HIGH
Prolactin 484 miu/L (45-375) HIGH
SHBG 24 nmol/L (13-71) NORMAL
Testosterone 10.6 nmol/L (8.4-28.7) NORMAL
DHT 0.87 nmol/L (0.32-1.64) NORMAL

Propecia aside i'm a little concerned by some of these numbers. Today I repeated the blood tests following 2 weeks of EOD propecia. My latest dose was 0.50mg 4 days ago. Will report back.

The results are back! Well some of them. Frustratingly the lab failed to test DHT and SHBG.

Oestradiol 116 pmol/L (<146) NORMAL
Prolactin 71 miu/L (45-375) NORMAL
Testosterone 15.0 nmol/L (8.4-28.7) NORMAL

I am pleased my oestradiol and prolactin are normal having been high a year ago. Not sure what to make of the very normal middle of the range in testosterone. It probably rules out TRT and i feel i could with some. Maybe the T spiked higher in response to lowering DHT. Stupid lab tested LFT instead of DHT!

Unfortunately the BEFORE tests were done a year before i commenced finasteride so not as useful. I'm not going to waste time discussing these results with my endocrinologist. They are utterly normal. Shall repeat tests in 1 month.

The higher testosterone is good as it probably means your DHT dropped quite a bit.

How is your numbers changed so much in a year? Did you lose 100 lbs of fat or something?

You numbers changed because you are on finasteride now, which is normal. Mine changed substantially as well when I started finasteride. My testosterone jumped up, and while I never had an initial DHT serum level test, it was at the very bottom of the spectrum when I tested it on finasteride.. Either way, about a year on finasteride, and I lost SO much hair it's ridiculous (not to scare you)... But, I was simply one of the "poor responders". Proof, in my eyes, that in certain people, when DHT is lowered the body counteracts the hell out of it. :sulkoff:
