Bryan: Copper peptide with permanent effects?

I was digging in the archives and saw you wrote this about copper peptides:

On the other hand, I think it's a distinct possibility that copper-peptides (and other SODs) may in fact have a permanent health-promoting effect on hair follicles. If for some reason I had to pick one or the other, it would probably be a copper-peptide.

Could you elaborate on that? I had thought that you lose all gains with tricomin if you go off it (just like minoxidil, etc).

I wish I had chosen my words more carefully! Obviously I think the beneficial effects of Tricomin or any other copper-peptide would dissipate if you stop using it; what I should have said is that copper-peptides (or other SODs) might have more of a permanent effect than just minoxidil alone, due to their ability to destroy superoxide.

In other words, suppose you take two identical-twin brothers who are balding the same way. One starts using topical minoxidil alone, while the other starts using a suitable copper-peptide alone. After many many years go by, I suspect that the one using the copper-peptide would have hair that's in better shape than the other. The reason for that, I believe, is that topical minoxidil only seems to give you that "offset of growth" that I've talked about so much, without actually interfering with the fundamental balding process. A SOD like a good copper-peptide, on the other hand, may go farther than that and actually promote some general "healing" of follicular/scalp tissue (I have to be a little vague about the exact details), which _may_ have better long-term results than minoxidil alone. That's my feeling.

Thanks for the response.

Do you think it would be possible for finasteride to maintain hair regrown on a finasteride/CP combo that would not have otherwise grown on finasteride alone? i.e the CP's provide an extra boost for regrowth where finasteride alone wasn't sufficient, but once discontinued finasteride is able to maintain what was grown. We know it doesn't in the case of minoxidil since it works to grow hair through a different mechanism, but I was curious if it would for CP's.

Can't say for sure, but just on general principles, it seems unlikely to me that a single agent would be able to fully maintain what had been previously regrown by that single agent + other agents.

But that reasoning alone wouldn't stop me from trying it! :)

Bryan, is it possible that the CP's healing/restorative effect on follicles can slow the increase in sensitivity of follicles to androgens (one of the reasons finasteride seems to lose effectiveness for some people after a few years)?

I don't really have problems with dryness from Tricomin (in fact it feels quite soothing)... are you applying too much? The only other thing I can say is that I apply it about 20 mins after coming out of the shower with towel-dried hair.

I have not had any problems with excessive dryness from Tric. I do use it only at night, 5x a week, and only after having applied Rogaine foam first (and then waiting for it to dry for 10-15 mins). Maybe that has an effect. I'm pretty sure I've always used Revivogen shampoo while on Tric, so that may or may not help with it, I don't know. I also use Nizoral and Pantene Full & Thick Shampoo.

To the question about which Copper Peptides brand to use, I say if you're going to use them at all (I don't think they have helped me at all, but that may be from the frequency with which I use them -- the successful tests they cite were with twice a day applications for 24 weeks, and I have never consistently applied it more than once a day) I would use Tricomin. It's somewhat more scientifically substantiated than Folligen, and plus it doesn't turn your hair (and anything and anyone you love around you) green. Tric actually has a pleasant odor I think, and as long as you have time to let it dry in the morning, probably could be feasibly applied twice a day because once dry you can't really tell there's anything in your hair (i.e. it doesn't leave a greasy Rogaine liquid after look)...I just always choose extra sleep over getting up a 1/2 hour to hour early to let hair regrowth solutions dry. :smack:

Mate its so true, if I want to apply Dermatch I have to get my Min on an hour before at least. My head is buzzed to a #0 and never gets longer than a #1 so I don't have to worry about my hair looking daft. I said I would never have a transplant, but I would consider something if it meant I could have a proper hairline and not have to hide the surgery scars for 3 months after. I would still have it at #1 though. I just want a solid hairline.

How long does it take a topical like Tricomin to be fully absorbed? (assuming for example I wanted to wash my hair afterwards)

Until it's dried maybe, but you can put it on after showering.

That's a VERY interesting question, and I've never seen anybody suggest that as a possiblity in all the years I've been reading hairloss sites! :)

Unfortunately, I just don't know the answer to that question. It seems rather unlikely to me that CP's could have such an effect, but don't bet the farm on it, one way or the other.

Anyone know a website that I can buy Tricomin shampoo from? Or does anyone know if a store in Australia sells it? I was thinking thr Tricomon shampoo could be good to use on the days im not using Nizoral. That way my hair gets some copper peps in it.

Personally I think using Tricomin shampoo would be waste of time, you put it on and then wash it off.

Why not go with the spray, it stays on your bonce!

The gourmetstylewellness.com shop definitely sells the Tric shampoo cheaper than anywhere else (believe me I've looked).

COnsidering I'm using rogaine, I figured it would be too difficult to also use the Tricomin spray. Also I've got a theory with the shampoos in that after you use them, don't put any topicals on for at least 2 hours so it has a chance of being absorbed into the scalp. Considering nizoral has been shown to work, Im sure shampoos do play a part in hair maintenance if used correctly.
