Can it permanently fck your hair up? Like make it dry and brittle - or is that just a scare story?
No.
Ketoconazole does have healthy properties at fighting hair loss however. What it does is:
+Fights Androgenetic Alopecia related inflammation
+Helps mend scalp skin damaged by Androgenetic Alopecia
+Cleanses the scalp and removes excessive sebum within the hair follicle
+Mildy competes with Testosterone
+Can shrink the sebaceous gland up to 20% and helps to keep the scalp from being excessively oily
+Has a stimulating effect on hair growth
It does all that at fighting Androgenetic Alopecia. Just don't expect any drastic decrease in thinning and having it help to thicken hair.
If you want to seriously treat Androgenetic Alopecia with actual long term results, you'll need to get on a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor, such as Dutasteride or Finasteride.
Using a 2% Ketoconazole shampoo everyday can ruin your hair, and yes it will make your hair dry and brittle if used too much. Then you'll have to wait for new healthy hair to come along if the strands get ruined.
Thanks man, looking at your posts, you're a very knowledgeable guy. So you mean you'll have to wait for the affected hair to enter the next phase?
Kind regards
No, you won't need to wait for the next growing phase. It's just the strands themselves are damaged and you'll need to wait for the healthy strands coming from the hair follicles to grow out.
That's probably a reason why 2% Ketoconazole shampoos are available through prescription only. Janssen Pharmaceuticals probably wouldn't want anyone to just buy the 2% form over-the-counter, and then busting up their hair from misusing it.
no but it will make it dry, and brittle.
hate that ****.
Use it once a week only.
No, scalp hair grows about 1 cm per month on average. So when you stop the ketoconazole today, you would have healthy strands of hair of about 10 cm length in 10 months. Quite simple.

I've seen the odd case of people grow back tonnes of hair on keto alone. However the cause of their hair loss was obviously not male pattern baldness and likely caused by severe inflammation/ dermatological reasons.
For me personally, I feel my scalp is in much better condition since using it. Spots, redness and the itching is much better. I now use 2% a few times a week but that's because I have no hair to destroy
i myself suffer from sebderm maybe thats the only cause of my hairloss? and nizoral alone can help? i should try before getting on finasteride/dutasteride.
