can reducing weight and having better control of your insulin reverse male pattern baldness in some?

Multiple cross sectional studies have found association between early androgenic alopecia, insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome,[SUP][62][/SUP][SUP][63][/SUP] with low HDL being the component of metabolic syndrome with highest association.[SUP][64][/SUP] Linolenic and linoleic acids, two major dietary sources of HDL, are 5 alpha reductase inhibitors.[SUP][65][/SUP] It has been suggested that premature androgenic alopecia and insulin resistance are a clinical constellation that represents the male homologue, or phenotype, of polycystic ovary syndrome.[SUP][66][/SUP] Others have found a higher rate of hyperinsulinemia in family members of women with polycystic ovarian syndrome.[SUP][67][/SUP]
In support of the association, finasteride improves glucose metabolism and decreases glycosylated hemoglobin HbA1c, a surrogate marker for diabetes mellitus.[SUP][68][/SUP] The low SHBG seen with premature androgenic alopecia is also associated with, and likely contributory to, insulin resistance,[SUP][69][/SUP] and for which it still is used as an assay for pediatric diabetes mellitus.[SUP][70][/SUP]
Obesity leads to upregulation of insulin production and decrease in SHBG. Further reinforcing the relationship, SHBG is downregulated by insulin in vitro, although SHBG levels do not appear to affect insulin production.[SUP][71][/SUP] In vivo, insulin stimulates both testosterone production and SHBG inhibition in normal and obese men.[SUP][72][/SUP] The relationship between SHBG and insulin resistance has been known for some time; decades prior, ratios of SHBG and adiponectin were used before glucose to predict insulin resistance.[SUP][73][/SUP] Patients with Laron syndrome, with resultant deficient IGF, demonstrate varying degrees of alopecia and structural defects in hair follicles when examined microscopically.[SUP][24][/SUP]
Because of its association with metabolic syndrome and altered glucose metabolism, both men and women with early androgenic hair loss should be screened for impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes mellitus II.[SUP][74][/SUP] A low fat and high fiber diet combined with regular aerobic exercise increases SHBG and insulin sensitivity.[SUP][75][/SUP] Regarding androgenic impact of diet with exercise, a study found increased protein intake led to higher concentrations of free and total testosterone immediately post exercise.[SUP][76]

And now someone will probably post a photo of a fat guy, with full head of hair.

Insuline resistance and obesity are the things that male pattern baldness genetically predisposed guys should be aware of.

okay so i may be genetically predisposed to male pattern baldness, but wouldnt that still mean keeping those things under control would help the situation?

I totally agree with you.
I've been sidelined with chronic pain. Going to work hard to reverse my bmi to a healthy level. If this is the cause for my male pattern baldness could losing weight reverse my hair loss at least to some degree and not just stop it? I've heard that hairloss in General can be reversed with diet but I'm not so sure on male pattern baldness

"Obesity and diabetes are chronic inflammatory diseases. Along with providing structural support and serving as an energy reservoir, adipose tissues cooperate with other endocrine organs to regulate energy metabolism, blood pressure, coagulation, and immune responses [13]. Adipocytes and preadipocytes are the main components by volume in adipose tissue"

Dude, working on you BMI can only be good :) just dont lose too much weight too fast-Sudden weight loss is a form of physical trauma that can result in thinning hair. Watch yor proteine intake-min. 60g/day

yeah im weight training so i drink protein water post gym. (breadless) chicken chicken chicken :) definitely approaching 100 grams a day

the only question i have now is whether this means it could reverse or if it would stay the same? anyone have a take on that considering the family history of diabetes and heart problems? early hairloss is linked to heart issues. it makes me wonder if improving my cardio would improve my hair ect ect. if only someone could find a study on that!

on another note, i ordered zinc Picolinate , GTF chromium, and magnesium to help with hairloss too. theres some evidence that can help as well.
