Can someone advise where I am on the Norwood scale?

Hi Guys,

Long time lurker, first time poster. Thought it was time to sign up and join in the discussion. Just wanted to ask what Norwood you guys think I might be?

Started by finding where my juvenile hairline would have been (sad to see how good it might have looked! :() and measured 2 cm up from there and drew in where my mature hairline should be. Am I correct in thinking it is 2 cm further up from the juvenile line?

My left temple has receded 1 cm past the mature line, i.e. 3 cm past juvenile and my right temple is a bit worse as it has receded 1.5 cm past the mature line, so 3.5 cm past juvenile, yeah I have a mega wonky hairline lol!

I am guessing I'm a Norwood 2.5 as I believe a Norwood 2 IS the mature hairline? Or am I a Norwood 3? Although I read somewhere that it can be anywhere up to 2.5 cm receded past juvenile and still class as a NW2 though so not sure? What do you think?

Interestingly right at the front where the forelock is, it hasn't receded at all and is right where my mature hairline should be, so if it was straight across I would be a happy Norwood 2. Good news is there are vellus hairs and more terminal looking ones (although isolated) everywhere in the receded area so do you think it might be possible to recover some ground? (I am on the big 3)

Also as I side note, how many grafts would it take to fill in that kind of area? 800 grafts? I'm 28 though so probably still too young for an hair transplant. Would be looking to get my Norwood 2 back not my juvenile hairline as I know that's unrealistic. Many thanks in advance for your help, I can add pics if needed later on.

Cheers, all the best. :)

There's no way to know without pictures, however, Norwood 2 does not go straight across. If you look at the scale from the top view, it makes a distinct "M" shape. Either way, the surest way to maintain is the "big 3"
