Canadians: Where do you get your finasteride?

I'm sure there are a number of Canadians on this forum and others who were impacted by United and Inhouse halting shipments to Canada this year. I had to scramble and order from a random online pharmacy (pharmacy2home.com) with very little to go on. It's pretty much impossible to find multiple solid recommendations for anywhere other than the big two that we all used to buy from.

The only place I can think of that I'd trust without further convincing right now is Dr. Lee's site. They have their own compounded finasteride in gelatin capsules. It's $148 shipped for a six month supply, which is pretty expensive, but obviously still a lot cheaper than name-brand Propecia.

So, Canadians, where are you getting your finasteride nowadays?

I actually just get them prescribed to me by my family physician in Proscar form; Lasts about 5 months for a 45 pill prescription and it runs me about 108 or so.

Monitoradiation, did you just ask your doctor to prescribe it for off-label use? You don't claim it on your insurance, right? Also, I assume it's brand-name Proscar -- no generic in Canada, is there?

Squeegee, I've seen housepharmacy suggested a couple times, but there isn't much in the way of recommendations and reviews available. Their site is a little tacky with the several year old copyright notice and weird shipping page. How do you select Canada for shipping? Where are they located/where do the drugs ship from, anyway?

I'm still trying to figure out how the hell Dr Lee's site ships out stuff to Canada. I know their express option is just EMS, but they are really evasive about clarifying how "air mail" shipments are sent. I have been told very clearly that it's NOT USPS Priority or First Class. These are the only other postal options from the States, so are they coming from another country, or what?

Anon,

That's right. I pay out of my pocket. It's expensive, sort of, but 20 dollars a month for hair, I'm willing to live with that. Secondly, It's stuff I KNOW is legit. That buys me peace of mind.

(note: Proscar for 5 months runs me about 104 dollars cdn. so for 6 months to run you 148 is somewhat more expensive. You should consider just getting Proscar from your physician.)

I first used Propecia, prescribed by a dermatologist. After the pills ran out, I went to my physician and asked for Proscar. Didn't have a problem getting it prescribed to me. In fact, just today, I went and got another batch.

Wow is that house pharmacy stuff really legit? it's cheap and no prescription required?

which one would you get? the fincar, finpecia, finast or finax? do they all work the same and have the same effectiveness? fincar says it's only for BPH...

finpecia and finax are both 1mg x 30 tabs and costs about $20

fincar and finast are both 5mg x 30 tabs and costs about $30 but you can split them up into 5ths that means 150 doses for $30???? does it really get that cheap?

I always go with Finast. Never had any problems. Probably drop-shipped from the manufacturer from India. I cut the pill in 5 or 6 and can go forever.

monitoradiation, that sounds like by far the best option for purchasing finasteride. I will see about getting my doctor to write a prescription for Proscar. Does your prescription actually note that it's for off-label use?

One of the main reasons I'm using the Indian generics is because nobody would prescribe it to me when I first started seeing doctors about hair loss. If it's not in the typical recession/bald spot pattern, everyone tells you it's just temporary telogen effluvium, and to wait it out :shakehead:

Also, I should add that housepharmacy apparently no longer ships to Canada due to customs restrictions (i.e. too many seized shipments). Looks like you will have to find a new source before your next order, squeegee :(

My prescription says clearly to use 1/4 tablet per day, which screams "use like Propecia" to anyone familiar with finasteride. The pharmacists who I take the prescription to definitely knows.

How have you been getting your finasteride? Your physician REFUSES to prescribe proscar to you? See, the thing is, I have a really good patient-doctor relationship with my physician, so if I were to say that I've been taking finasteride with no sides for 6 months and that I want a trusted source for finasteride, they would definitely prescribe Proscar for me even if they didn't want to before that. I think it's in both of your interests to tell your physician that:

1) You've been taking finasteride without side effects (if that is ACTUALLY true, be honest);
2) You want a legitimate source of finasteride without paying the price of propecia;
3) That you can either get legit versions through them, or that you'll just have to buy online, which can be iffy.

If your physician knows their stuff, I don't see how much more convincing they would need to prescribe you Proscar, knowing that you're dead set on getting it so it might as well be through them.

Buy it and get back to us with feedbacks? try with a small order first....Just try to compare with the sh*t that you have right now...Packaging...size of the pill..taste.. I need more finasteride but only for only in the next 2 months. Spending money on other supplements right now..

I ordered Finax from pharmacy2home when I was frantically searching for a new place after discovering UP and IH weren't shipping to Canada anymore. They e-mailed me to say they couldn't ship Finax to Canada because it comes straight from India. They apparently ship Finpecia from Germany, so I had to substitute that in my order.

I'd never used Finpecia before. The packaging looks legit, and I did take a look around online to make sure the blister strips/printing seemed okay. I don't know if I got a bad batch, or my hair loss is just not responding well, but I did subjectively seem to lose a lot of ground at the hairline while on the Finpecia, which I thought I'd been maintaining nicely on Finax. I don't have any before/after photos to examine or post, and I obviously can't say whether it's just accelerated hair loss, so please take my comments with a grain of salt.

I just ordered a four month supply of Dr. Lee's compounded finasteride, and I wish I had done this before for my peace of mind. I'll work myself up to asking my doctor to prescribe Proscar to cut up, as suggested in this thread.

P.S. I should add that I ordered from pharmacy2home based on the recommendation of another poster here, who said his Finpecia from them was working well for him.
