I had Sentanta but they are gone now in the US I think....I hope they figure it out by August.

At the least they aren't taking on anyone else.

But 46 games is a amazing start...I assume FOXSoccer channel will take on more...Thanks OP...this made my day! I hated SETNATA!

All that money and no HD!

i heard setanta went down the shitter, is that why they were bought out?

The guy who was going to buy them out changed his mind. Or something along those lines. So their football rights were taken away when they could not make payments.

They are making huge losses at the moment.

I'm not sure what channel the games will be on in the UK or USA. Does FOX own ESPN? I'm not sure if ESPN will show the games in the UK or 'lease' them to BSkyB.

That sort of highlights the problem. No one in the UK has the subscriber base to afford such an expensive deal. ITV digital tried it 10 years ago, and now Setanta, both of them almost went bust!

Anti-monopoly legislations are designed to prevent companies like Sky from having a control over football, but who else can afford it? Any new comer needs to build a subscriber base ASAP, or have a large backing and hope to make up in 4-5 years. Financial backing is an absolute necessity because European nations are too small and our businesses don't scale like the American businesses. Over there a new company could get 5-10 million subscribers in the first year and then slowly build up to the full potential. Here, they need to get to the full potential in under a year and they can't, that's why a large amount of money with the hope of getting it back in 4-5 years time is needed.

I believe BSkyB and Fox are affiliates... They are both part of the Murdoch empire.

ESPN is owned by Disney, which also owns the broader American network ABC.

I never knew that.

I never knew that either. I always assumed ABC was owned by the people. Like the BBC.

Noooo.. ABC is about as Federal as Federal Express. In name only.

The closest thing we have that approximates to the BBC is the PBS network.
