i have a pretty good feeling if he actually looked into being castrated he would be sent to a mental health clinic and probably not released for quite some time.

yeaaahhhhhh ok buddy, ever been to a psych ward? well i have MANY MANY MANY times, i have a close friend who is hospitalized from bipolar a couple times a year for weeks at a time, and a cousin who is permanently living in a psych ward.
you sound like people i know, people i've met, but only in a psych ward.
you outta get your brain fixed and quick, or you're going to spend alot of time sitting in a bed...staring out a window...wondering why you feel different every day of the week. the medications are going to suck...but alot less than having your balls cut off.
do you want to know the NUMBER ONE reason i know you're not mentally right? because if you wanted to do humanitarian work for real, you'd be off doing it. you're balls aren't holding you back. say you had spent 15 years doing humanitarian work in a third world country and your INTENSE raging boners were a serious problem...then i would TRY to understand.
i think you need to try to understand what a mental illness is. did you know most mental illnesses go undiagnosed and untreated?

Like someone mentioned get on finasteride.... sure the sides go away after awhile, but the first day on finasteride is equal to castration in my personal experience. Use that as a trail run. Maybe you'll find the general 'low libido' state of typical finasteride users fits the bill and decide you'll stay on it.
Also note hormones keep you young and happy, you won't find satisfaction in helping others if you are not happy yourself.

There are plenty of people who do humanitarian aide and still have their nads.

you havn't listened to a single word anyone has said here, which leads me to believe you really don't care and really aren't seeking help just attention. which furthers the theory that you are in fact lonely and crying out for someone to throw you something, anything. castration is not acccepted in society today as a personal choice. it's an act of self-mutilation.
go ahead, look into having yourself castrated. the best you will get is drugs to supress your libido.
if you were my friend, i would have you talk to a psychologist. i can't make you do that since i don't know you in real life but i hope you will.

Maybe that will kill my sex drive, but I am scared of gyno which is why I am curious to know if castration has gyno as an effect too. I rather walk around with no balls than grow two breasts.
As far as societal acceptance, maybe I can change that someday too. Maybe many people can. Thats how movements get started. Look at Muhammad or Joseph Smith. People hated these guys back in the day and thought they were insane. But now they have a large following.

My understanding is this:
Castration would not kill your sex drive completely, you would still have psychosexual desires from years of conditioning. There is really no way to eliminate your sex drive completely. By all means, if your are over-sexed then I can understand why you might want to fix that. I am sure there are ways to reduce your sex drive so that it interferes less with your day to day thoughts, thereby allowing you to be more productive.
However, the only way to completely eliminate your sex drive (so that you NEVER think about sex, and are NEVER attracted sexually to anyone) ...would be to kill yourself. Of course then you would not be able to help others at all, so you've got a bit of a Catch 22 situation there.
Perhaps you know differently, but none of the world's greatest spiritual leaders were/are castrated as far as I am aware. As a matter of fact, the most inspiring characters from history are always those who overcome their personal obstacles by using the power of their minds.
If you went ahead with this, you would be a poor role model.
