Changing Bangs: A Sign Of Hair Loss?

I’m 18 years old and I’ve always had fair hair and a high hairline but I’ve often been able to deal with it using some pomades and thickening shampoo. While my hairline is not ideal, it’s one that is similar to my father and grandfather who had something similar to a Norwood 2/3 their whole life without balding. The only history of balding in my family comes from my maternal uncles. In the past year, however, I’ve noticed that the bangs I usually have seem to be different with clumping and less volume. While my crown shows no signs of hair loss the cowlick in the back seems to have hairs sticking up a bit more frequently. Is this a sign of thinning or recession to my hairline? Balding in the future? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Hi, I style my hair similar to yours. I'm 29 y/o. I've noticed little less volume in my bangs maybe few years ago and it didn't change at all for years. Maybe just a way your hair mature especially when you are 19. Also have high forehead and widow peak from birth.

Thanks for the feedback John! Any way you dealt with the changed look (new products, shampoo, etc.)?

Well, my hair is messy and thick so nobody really noticed except me. I change shampoo very often and I mostly blow dry my hair so there are many factors that change how my hair looks.
When I used head and shoulders my hair looked very thick but it's to aggressive and it made my hair greasy.
I'm using Johnson's now, it's better then Head and Shoulders but it makes my hair thinner and lighter.
I've changed how I style my hair from left to right and from right to left but it's mostly the same.
Sometimes is cut it shorter or longer, nobody can really tell the difference.

Other than ‘the itch’, it’s been loss of density in my fringe (bangs) that has been the biggest indicator of hair loss. I had a sort of emo style from 17 until recently (30) where it almost looks a bit pathetic when I style it now.

From the few photos you’ve uploaded, your hair looks fine. Try an ‘over the head’ shot with your bangs pulled back tight over the top of your head (check my thread for an example of me doing this)
