Discuss. And contribute by trying to find some new info on this!

Researchers at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) have devised a hair restoration method that can generate new human hair growth, rather than simply redistribute hair from one part of the scalp to another.

According to a study published in the online edition of the proceedings of the national academy of sciences, the approach could significantly expand the use of hair transplantation to women with hair loss, who tend to have insufficient donor hair, as well as to men in early stages of baldness.

“About 90 percent of women with hair loss are not strong candidates for hair transplantation surgery because of insufficient donor hair,” said co-study leader Angela M Christiano, PhD.

“This method offers the possibility of inducing large numbers of hair follicles or rejuvenating existing hair follicles, starting with cells grown from just a few hundred donor hair.

It could make hair transplantation available to individuals with a limited number of follicles, including those with female pattern hair loss, scarring alopecia, and hair loss due to burns.”

The source of new hair: For the first time, researchers have been able to take human dermal papilla cells (those inside the base of human hair follicles) and use them to create new hairs.

I like Cristiano cause she understands how terrible it is for a woman to go bald (I'm not saying it's any less terrible for men, just that it is much more common and "acceptable").
But anyway, she and her team have been focused on working on JAK now, haven't they? So I don't think that could compete with Tsuji in the "race for the cure".
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please. I hope I am.

This looks like old information.

Ah well, back to Tsuji.

I wouldn't lose interest just yet, since apparently Jahoda was involved with this.

He has a trial that has lasted years set to conclude this month as I recall and he's the guy that demonstrated in his wife's arm that it is possible to grow new follicles using dermal papillae back in like 1999. He is taking his time, but his work is worth following.

He may yet be able to give us Christiano's undying 80's hair.

Interesting.
I didn't know Jahoda has a study set to conclude this month.
It would be nice to get results from that study because Jahoda is closing in.
