Almost 2 months on dutasteride and loss continues and at an even higher rate than when on finasteride...

It has got thinner all over so still hoping this is shedding although I see no sign of re-growth at all. The temples have moved back even further leavin bare area :freaked: The centre is very thin diffuse. Crown thank god is still surviving (everything crossed).

No sides to report so that is good, I guess I will not get any as I would have by now.

I have sort of gone to EOD because I am concerned at the rate of loss and if accelerated shedding then I need to slow it down for now as thin bald patches at front are beginning to show bad.

I am hopin I don't get a Timi experience. I can stand it getting worse before getting better but losin some confidence it will get better....

Thinkin I may have to go on foam if things don't slow and I wanted to avoid .. i'll give it a good few weeks more before I consider this route...2 months is still pretty early to make judgements on effectiveness of dutasteride for me...impatientness setting in again..

stick with Every Day nick and hang in there man! If I were you I'd go for the foam too. Why not give it everything you've got as the foam may help your thin front areas recover. Good luck man!

dude, give it more than 6 months.. i am at eight months and just starting to slightly thicken.

You really have to give this a year.

I shed like a donkey when I started.. hang in there and ride it out.

for now wear a hat as much as possible or use a concealor.

and don't forget to chill out.

Keep it up

I say Keep it up and Kia Kaha (Maori for Keep strong)

I myself am in a similar boat

Was 2 years on finasteride and it did nothing but decimate my hair and thin me right out!

jumped on the dutasteride every other day band wagon now! shedding like a dog just like on finasteride!

So kamikaze ish but what else is tehre to do!

Keep the faith

If you're convinced that finasteride decimated your hair (which is very unlikely), why would you chose to take yet another drug that does the same thing, but is even more powerful? I don't understand your logic.

Hey Nick,

I am in the same boat as you - 9 months on finasteride and nothing but shedding and density loss. What if DHT is not the problem for "exceptions" like us? If it's something else like Testosterone, then finasteride and Avodart are both known to raise it by 10 percent or more. That could explain the increased hair loss. I keep on repeating this, but most I my friends who had good success with finasteride/Avodart saw reduced shedding very early on (within 1-2 months). Why not look into an anti androgen like Topical spironolactone? Worth a shot, right?

Hi,

I'm tempted to start a topical and yes I think there are exceptions that DHT is not the main contributor to our hairloss or finasteride/dutasteride would work for us all - it is really effective for some and not others so must be some answer..

I would try foam first but I am trying to keep faith in dutasteride (thanks guys for all support, we all need it to keep up these treatments) working first as topical is laborious and yet more hassle and money..for life at least the pill is easy. Not sure about spironolactone..certainly internal I would not consider..topical maybe if foam does not work..

Getting even shorter haircut this week...hopefully a slim chance will look thicker if there is any short growth coming...

Have not ordered foam yet and haircut is this week. I will get it cut short.

Unbelievable how much I have lost in last 2 weeks...Now at 3 months.

Only strands fo hair left in hairline and so thin and flat what is left on top when I get it cut I think scalp will be showing all over, something that's never happened before.

I see no regrowth happening at all, nightmare.

Confidence is gone, image is gone, really sad...I keep up but really think there is no hope and despite all this expense and effort only negative to show for it ....A year an a half ago I had almost all my hair and now only months off of being bald..wish I could start again and let nature take its course. DHT is obviously not everything to hairloss..

I hope it is shedding but then I have been losing ground for over a year now. Just got it cut, pretty bad at the front but not so bad further back so at least it was not a buzz cut situation this time. Keeping fingers crossed that things will turnaround one day..

Hi JDW,

Coming up 4 months now and still thinning, the front was thin but now its beginning to dissappear altogether..front 2 inches of head not much left...Crown is still ok but all on top is thin and flat so I am worrried about it going there..that would be the end.

I have to wash it most days just to give whats left some volume or it just looks bad all over. The nizoral 1% I use seems to make it feel good I use twice a week (stopped using 2%..seemed to throw hair off and made my scalp too dry and itchy) and I use Elvive thickening shampoo in between and thickening mouse. I have stuck now with 3 Dutas tabs a week for last 2 months following every day for the first two months. I take hair multivitamins and MSM on the off days.

Pillow has 5-15 hairs on it most mornings so I use that as a guage to loss..I only used to lose 2-5 hairs a day before dutasteride (I know I should not count hairs, a bad habit for many of us)..I know I loose quite a bit when I wash but cannot tell as hair length is around 1-2 inches. When I brush twice a day I lose 5-10 hairs.

Keep hoping for that turnaround and to see some small hairs and even a loss slowdown but not yet..

Hows things with you, hope you are getting better luck..

Nick I suggest you take dutasteride everyday with a glass of grapefruit juice for maximum absorbtion.

Give it 6 months - 1 year. Your hair is going through transformation period and needs timeto adjust. Hang in there.

seems me and you are going through the same thing mate...
mine has gotten worse with each passing day, lots of big thicker terminal hairs falling from everywhere...hard to see light at he end of it all but we've got no other options really so we've got to stick with it I guess....hang in there man & keep each other updated. Maybe sacrificing a bull to the god of hair might help?
