I wish my mom would have told me I was starting to lose my hair that way I would have acted earlier. But NOOOOOO, my parents even denied I was losing hair when I brought it up to them after I found out. "Don't worry, hair is not important" they said..........YEAH RIGHT!!!!!

I got that too.

"Oh no your hair isn't thinning. It's natural, look, look mine is thin around the front too."

b**ch lol. :)

Thanks everyone. I am set to call him this week on his day off when he has more time. I am a bit nervous though. Wish me luck and thanks again, guys. Your feedback has really helped.

HopeL, your situation is very similar to one I posted called 'Should I tell'

http://www.gourmetstylewellness.com/discussions ... sc&start=0

Our son was pleased he was told. It came as a shock and he realises not everyone has success with the various 'remedies'. Obviously he was/is very disappointed that it is happening and it will change the way he thinks about things (deliberately vague here). I researched and asked questions on this forum. He started his regime a month ago - Propcepia/ proscar and proxiphen with nizoral. shampoo. I also bought some other stuff which is not being used as I got a bit carried away when ordering!

We decided to tell before he was told by others. This will inevitably happen so being prpared will hopefully reduce the embarrassment.

He is the same age as your son.

Good luck. [/url]

pratc,
Thank you. I just read the entire thread. Interesting that one poster mentioned not having mom involved in telling your son. I don't understand that and asked my husband (my son's stepfather) what he thought. I certainly want to make this as comfortable as possible for him but I realize nothing I can do or say will make it ok. My husband thinks that my telling him should be fine since we are pretty good when it comes to communicating these days.

The entire thread was so helpful. I hope your son responds to the treatments.

Even though I've read things to the contrary, it seems to me the mother's side dominates when handing down these genes (good head of hair or not). I so hoped it wouldn't. Oh well. Such is life.

Thank pratc and thanks again to all who replied. I'll keep you posted...

HopeL. Thanks. I think it's OK for you to tell him as his mother.

If he doesn't take it well it may becasue of a 'knee jerk' reaction, but after time he would know you had done it with his best interests at heart. If you didn't tell him, you would always wonder whether you should have.
