Hey everyone.

I'm 26 and lately I've been giving a lot of thought about the thinning on my crown.

Here's what it currently looks like http://imgur.com/a/8Wizb

It's probably just my ego not wanting to let go but I actually think I can hide it pretty well. The problem is that hair moves while in motion and I find myself constantly looking in mirrors and my phone to make sure it looks good. Doing this doesn't bother me but it kind of feels like i'm living a lie and concealing a dark secret.. It's affecting my dating life. I understand that a great girl would be understanding and accepting but I cant help but feel like i'm telling a lie on these dates..

Any kind of advice is appreciated

Thanks

What's effecting your dating life is the fact that it looks ridiculous.

Buzz it off, and ditch the comb over. In the long run your just going to keep stressing yourself out constantly worrying about intimate moments, wind, and water dislodging your comb over. Taper the sides, and buzz the top like a military cut. Keep it high, and tight.

Does it matter? Bald or balding, he's not going to look his best. So he's screwed both ways.

Double edged sword.

Buzzing it off would give better presentation. He wouldn't look his best, but at least he wouldn't look subhuman.

What the hell? I was thinking such comb overs were ancient history. That reaks of insecurity and that's not a good thing. Buzz it as shookwun said and hope on treatment and transplant in future.

Weird pattern of loss, like the forelock is still there somewhat yet a huge hole in the middle.

Thats an excellent coverup but as the others said, it will drive you crazy keeping it presentable. Might be best to buzz it if you can.

Buzz it down.

It may look presentable from the front with the hairs meticulously arranged but i guarantee its going to look awful in every other angle.

both of them are insecure. hiding the hair loss through buzzing it to make it look like you are bald by choice, or hiding the hair with a combover

its just buzzing it generaly is a more aesthetic way of being insecure xD

sometimes i have seen guys who look good with a combover. honestly i think prince william looks good with a combover, it makes him look mature and royal. he would look ridiculous with a shaved head.

Imagine if prince william decided to go with the slick bald meat head look. He would no longer look like royalty.

All bull**** aside, buzz it.

People probably ridicule you behind your back. I can only imagine the OP delinquently arranging his follicles in a certain manner, and avoiding the wind like a plague.

I really don't see a problem with shaving or bussing your hair there are so many people doing it that it is just a matter of getting use to it and the people around you will start accepting you this way.
There are plenty of famous people gong with shaved heads like:
Dwayne Johnson

or
Vin Diesel

yep shave your head and you will look like dwayne johnson and vin diesel....
if you also have a perfect head shape, masculine features and have 2-3 hours a day to hit the gym

I'd say buzz it off and start a treatment regime of the big 3 after 6 months or so let it grow back

Well I explained why Prince William has to do what he does and his comb over does not look that bad - think I wrote about this in another thread. OP's is like a throwback to the 1970's, such an extensive and horrifying cover up IMO.

Buzzing/shave doesn't look insecure, you're showing your bald head. Does it look good? Depends from crap to ok to great for a minority. Always would look better with hair e.t.c.

Or that could mean he doesn't give a damn about what he looks like. So yes, double-edged sword.

I knew keeping my horseshoe kind of made me look like a grandpa, but shaving it completely would have made me look like someone who is on chemotherapy.

Whatever your choice is, you're screwed in some way.

Horseshoe is different and "normal" in society. You can shave it off or keep it low, doesn't make you look abnormal, $hit maybe. Plenty of balding males around.

What would be worse is a guy who has a massive bald patch in the middle and has grown it out with great failure - this would make people glance again for sure and would put off women more than any other type of hair loss or hair style. It's like something you saw in the 70's but was "ok" then.

Buzzed baldy hairwise - 3/10. Shaved baldy - 1/10. This type of combover is like -1/10.

I dont think it is time for you to buzz, any hair is better than no hair. Jude law looks better with hair than buzzed.

As soon as your GF or prospect runs her hands through the front of your hair, your busted. It's time to toupe it up, or shave it all off IMO. But before you do that you should check to see if you can get a hair transplant and go on the big 3 for life.

I wouldn't recommend something as drastic as an all over buzz or shaved head, going from 70s mop with sideburns (even if is just one massive combover) to a bare, buzzed head could look absolutely atrocious if he doesn't have an awesome headshape, this would be the same for anyway.

Definitely though, he could consider buzzing those sides and back nice and short, leaving the top slightly longer, to minimise the visual impact of the balding area on top, as opposed to the long thick sides he has now, which only draw more attention to the balding area.

There's a tiny bit of hair there at the front and middle he could work with, if he cut it to 1 inch or so length, and uses lots of concealers and has a go at minoxidil and finasteride to stabilise and maybe even regrow some of the diffuse areas. It would at least be a lot more plausible and "socially acceptable" style than the current look, lower maintenance and a lot less extreme and shocking than a full on buzz cut or shaved head.... of not there's always hair transplants... and failing that, there's always toupes as Scorpio points out.

...but hey, props to op for somehow keeping his combover game going this long, that is one painstaking effort! lol There's just no way you could pull off that kind of look here in the uk though, our windy and wet weather would just annihilate it day after day.
