Could .5mg Of Propecia Be A Good Place To Start?

I just got my 1mg of propecia and cut the pill in half. I took .5mg because I want to know how it will affect me. I know there are a lot of charts that suggest .5mg is just as effective as 1mg, but I'm still skeptical. 1mg seems to be the sweet spot for most people.

Does anyone else take .5mg? Do you see any benefits from it? If you don't take .5mg, did you start with a lower dosage than you are taking now?

I've taken 0.5mg of finasteride for about a month. If your question is about the appropriate dosage, you should know that propecia has a flat dose response so that even 0.25mg will reduce DHT by almost the same amount as 1mg in long term. So same effectiveness, but also same sides (I have quit propecia since). The only difference is how fast 1mg will reduce your DHT compared to other low dosage (0.5/0.25).

0.5 is a good place to start. It also saves money!

Any amount has some benefit. The best benefit was 1mg which is why they choose that dose it got the best hair results. It doesnt lose much effectiveness at lower doses like .5 but it does a little. You cant have your cake and eat it too. Higher doses=better results=higher chance of sides. No way around it.

As the others have stated; 0.5 is pretty much same as 1. Like nearly almost same. Google: finasteride flat dose response curve. Halving is a good way to save money though.

There are a small number of people who are outliers and who need the 1mg dose in order for it to work well. Merck chose 1mg as the standard dose in order to catch all the outliers. For the vast majority of users, there should be virtually no difference in effectiveness between 0.5mg and 1mg. In fact, for most people there is not much difference in effectiveness between all doses of 0.2mg and upwards. I think it is a good idea to choose 0.5mg as your dose. If you find that you are one of the very small number of people who does not respond to the 0.5mg dose, you can then up your dose to 1mg.

How would I know if I responded to .5mg? considering that it takes at least a year to see any progress.

I had aggressive loss so NW0 at 17 to NW3a diffuse at 21 and 0.25mg stabilised and grew back hair. You'll see stabiliziation after 2-3 months and beyond that some regrowth until 6 months. Also I saw your transplant thread a while back and should say that I'm still 22 and 6.5 months post mine and at this point it has been a seriously good decision, I'd strongly recommend you look into your options there but definitely get on finasteride 0.25mg and nizoral 2% twice a week.

You think Merk statistic were only 2%of people have sides is true?

I'm not going to get into the argument of whether Merck's statistics are false or not, but even if it is, that still doesn't make a random poll with small sample size and biased results accurate.
