Could Excessive Dermarolling Cause Hair Loss?

I've slowly moved from 0.25mm, 0.5mm, and now on 1mm needles.
The wounding is needed to stimulate growth, but at some point would you be concerned about losing hair due to physical trauma? I've learnt not to be concerned about light bleeding and the blood clotting showing on the temples/vertex, but trying to find the right level of wounding...
In the past, I had irritable scalp where I compulsively scratch, and pick the scabs...and it caused the region to go even more bald. I don;t want a repeat of this and currently resisting all temptations to even touch the blood clots.
Anyone had any similar experience ?

I only use a 0.5mm as I always thought longer needles were for remodeling skins' collagen i.e for scars on face and not scalp. Was there somewhere you read a longer needle would work better?

I recall some members posting an article on the efficacy of dermarolling on hair regrowth, and the study was based on 1.5mm needles.
The poll which I posted under this same section suggested I was the only one (out of four that responded lol) who used <1mm needles, so I thought it was about time I slowly moved on...

bigger question, does it even work? just one study from india claims it does
and only a few members claim to have growth with it, and some even quit bc the limited growth wasnt worth it

Shower immediately after, so you don't get due dried blood on your scalp.

The way I see it: dermarolling costs much less than other forms of treatment, and it improves the health of the scalp.
The idea is to improve blood flow, hence facilitate topical solutions.
I think it is unpopular due to the pain, and it can be time-consuming... so even if the evidence for regrowth is anecdotal I think it is worth continuing. Furthermore, they can be used on your facial skin for improved exfoliation. I guess the key is finding the right balance between positive wounding and causing too much physical trauma which could have a negative impact.

Fair enough and I can see why then, but I would still not be drawing (or attempting to draw) blood. As your last posts stated it's to improve blood flow and facilitate topical solutions and when I use a 0.5 the area turns red which is an indication to me that blood flow has been achieved. The onl time you might need longer is if you have long hair when a short needle would not reach the scalp due to hairs in the way, in those instances light pressure with a longer needle should have same effect as shorter.

I can't vouch for scalp with certainty but 1.5mm on face is intended to produce collagen to remodel scars by injuring the skin which attracts cells to 'heal' the area. Something tells me it might be too much for scalp...

Seeing what the guys at stopaga are doing, i don t think you can overdo it. The good resluts were pretty bloody. Just leave it time to heal up completely, desinfect, ect.

I guess in theory the hairs lost via physical trauma should grow back. Do you think it cause some hair loss if dermarolling is not carried out appropriately (accidentally cutting rather than stamping with needles) and if it's done before recovery from the previous times? At the moment I'm just doing it as frequently as I feel the scalp can handle (no more blood clots, and not too tender).....

I would tend to agree with you, hence starting on the 0.25mm. I guess as my tolerance slowly built up I became more 'blood thirsty' lol.
I would say with confidence that my scalp feels much cleaner since dermarolling, and accept that the occasional minor itching is the recovery process, rather than sebum causing problems. I do admit more due care is needed. I have long hair, and use a derma-stamp.
Some may question the risk of topical solutions going systemic; I'm not concerned as yet, as I am tolerating the minor sides from oral Finasteride and hardly think any topical solutions can do worse.

I m in no way more educated than you, but i think you are doing it right. For me once a week seems to be the sweet spot.

Fair do's and i think some of the other guys on here agree with you a longer needle is better. Ive stopped rolling atm but if i do in future might be an idea for me to try longer. Best of luck and be sure to disinfect the roller each time (i kept skipping this part lol)

I use the durmanator machine and use the 1.5 setting. I don't think its necessary to see blood. The machine make its pretty efficient and there is very little blood.

Ahh I was hoping to hear from someone with this experience! It is a pricey gadget but I'm prepared to invest.
Could you tell me what the advantages are compared to doing it manually? Also I have long hair...and wonder if it would be problematic. I find it much easier to avoid tangles using stamps rather than a roller.

if you do that you will 100% infect your scalp with microbes and bacteria from the water, while also clogging up your scalp with hard minerals. Where did you read this about dried blood?

I'm speaking from personal experience here: I started at 1.5mm needling with DR pen. I worked my way up to aggressive 2.5mm with 3-5 speed level. My scalp bleeds and goes red like someone smashed a bottle on it. But the after effect is significant hair growth. It's almost like I had a hair transplant.

You have regrowth from needling alone?

I've seen the study done on this and consistently tried it for long periods but get no benefit from it and in fact continue losing hair. I use a 1mm once a week and a 0.25mm twice a week.

I'd be interested in hearing how others have found it.
