I’m currently 19, I have hairloss in my family and currently am experiencing minor recession (it’s not apparent in the photos but it’s been confirmed by a derm). Regardless, I’m trying to think ahead as to whether I want to treat or leave it.

I was wondering if I could pull off the bald look in 3/5 years. I’ve got facial hair filling in slowly, I was thinking of shaving when I can grow a decent amount.

My main concern is my upper half. Without hair I don’t want to look like a space invader. What do you guys think?

Edit: removed pictures to close thread, thanks everybody for their input

You have very nice jaw structure so probably yeah. However I STRONGLY recommend you to start Finasteride 1mg.

Start building your neck and traps/upper back. Just in case it happens you will look good.

I think youll have more than 3-5 years man. Maybe closer to 10 years before you have to shave.

Mate you have way to much hair to be thinking about that. Even if you are receding, it doesn't mean you will go bald at all. Heck, you could stay a thick nw2-3 rest of your life. We dont know. I could understand your post if you were a nw3 with some thinning going on.

You have good jaw but your skull is big/wide. I don't think it will suite you but I can be wrong.

You could always try a short buzz cut over the summer and see how it looks

You have an excellent jaw and headshape so yeah you could. I'd still try to keep your hair though but that's up to you.

I know but it’s nice to know I have some sort of fall back even if everything goes wrong

You're 6'6" and have a POWERFUL jaw. We can't see the top of your skull, but judging by the lower four-fifths of your skull, you will be one of the few Caucasian men who looks good bald.

However, I'd add two caveats. Firstly, try and gain some muscle mass (understandably, not too easy to do at 6'6"), because bald and skinny is almost always a bad look. Secondly, I wouldn't get attached to the idea of a beard just yet. You look too young to grow a good one now and given that, there's no way of knowing how good your facial hair coverage will be in 5+ years. It might be very patchy and weak. Honestly, you look like the type of guy who won't have full coverage, though I could be wrong. On the bright side, if you're a bit jacked, I think you can pull off bald and clean-shaven, which is a gift from God. Bald + bearded is so played out; bald + clean-shaven is bold and fresh. Very few can pull it of, but with your jawline and square head, you are a very good candidate for it.

Very informative response thank you very much. My family has broad and thick shoulders that kick in at about 23 or so, as well as thick full facial hair so I’m (praying) that those’ll kick in soon, the shoulders are coming in.

I’d honestly prefer the bald plus a little stubble opposed to a huge beard, however I feel like it could be a nice addition for a style change every now and then.

As for the game plan I’ll stick to the gym and the sun, and enjoy my locks while I got them. I imagine it’ll be gone before I’m 40, hopefully between 30-40 but I can’t know of course.

why wait, you should shave your head now.

i dont know what your derm is telling you, but that isnt minor recession. you have receded a fair bit for your age. may aswell finish it off and start shaving your head now.

I’d say I’m not beyond NW2, my baseline at 15 years old was also NW1.5-2

I tried quoting you but it said I don’t have that function yet but will get it in time.

At what age did hairloss start kicking in for your family members? Have you seen what they looked like at 15 compared to you?

Nobody started balding past 40. My uncles have hairlines like me and still have hair but my dad had a nice round one till he was 40 and hairloss kicked in
