crown-only baldness?

I have been using minoxidil 5%, nizoral 2%, and 1.25 mg finasteride each day for the past 2.5 years, and it hasn't really done a whole lot to stop or reverse my hairloss. I haven't seen any regrowth, and I still seem to be losing hair, although the rate of loss might have slowed down a bit. As a last resort, I'll try dutasteride here soon and see if that helps.

Anyway, my hairloss seems to be exclusively isolated to an area a few inches in diameter on my crown. This region is balding in a very distinct circle, but all of my other hair, including my hairline, still looks full and OK.

My question is, is it possible to only lose the hair on your crown, or is it just a matter of time before my hairline starts to recede as well? Any older guys on here only lose the hair on their crown? I'm 24.

I ask because I wonder if I should continue my hairloss prevention regimen even if it becomes apparent that I can't save that region on my crown. There's no point in taking it if it isn't helping, but if it can ward off future loss, then I might as well keep it up. Part of the reason I'm having trouble now is because it took me so long to discover I was going bald - you can't see it in the mirror, and I'm kind of tall so most other people can only see it when I'm sitting down and they are standing up.

Hey, I'm in the same position as you.

My hairline is full and intact but I seem to be only losing hair on my crown/vertex area.

Here's a pic of my crown. Sorry about the size of the pic. I suck at this whole photo editing thing.

get on finasteride and hopefully it will fill in the crown area

if finasteride doesnt work after a yr, you can always get on minoxidil.

As well as DHT - Crown baldness is liked to heart issues and cholesterol.

Try reducing your saturated fats in your diet and using a shampoo which clears excess sebum.

I was on Propecia for about 6 months a while back, but stopped because it was just too expensive and I couldn't afford it. I was buying brand name Merck Propecia from the drug store and it was setting me back almost $65 a month. I haven't been able to find an online pharmacy for discount finasteride that ships to Canada, otherwise I'd jump back on finasteride.
