Curious if anyone else has been this unsuccessful.

I've been using minoxidil and Propecia for 11 months now. When I started the treatment my hair was not bad at all but I noticed it and wanted to catch it early...downhill from there it seems.

Month 2: I experienced a horrible shed and afterwards my balding was officially noticeable by other people.

Month 5: Yet another shed(I have had no regrowth since the previous shed mind you)...ok going out without a hat really is not even an option now =(

Months 6-9: Hair completely stops falling out however I notice no regrowth whatsoever.

Month 10-Present: Currently going through yet ANOTHER shed! Worst one yet! Zero regrowth and my hairline and frontal crown are officially unbearable for me to look at. I can also see that my thinning reaches all the way to the back of my head(horseshoe) which was definitly not there before starting treatment. The only thing that has not changed during the past year is the thick littler tuft of hair right in front of my hairline(oh goody thats gonna look COOL  )

I have never had any breaks whatsoever in my regimen and I shampoo with T/gel 2x weekly. Am I just a non responder? If so...sh*t. Please assist.

Hey I'm 21 too and started propecia one month ago.

It is possible that the hair that is lost through your various sheds will grow back. You gotta lose a little to gain alot right?

Many doctors usually adivse you to wait a full year and maybe even more to judge how your regimen is working.

I'm just curious, what was the state of your hairloss before you started treatment?

Your only suggestion is that he quits Finasteride????

Bad advice.

He's not complaining about side effects. He is wondering why he has not had results with his hair.

How does that link help address his question?

Short ... do you have any baseline photos to help you keep perspective on exactly how much hair you have lost? I can tell you straight up that without photos I would have sworn my life away that my hair was getting MUCH worse. I can not count the # of times the photos I had taken totally shut me and my ranting up and proved that I looked absolutely no different than I did the day I started...

If you could post some photos of your hair now, that would be very very helpful for us in providing you good advice. You'd be surprised how many guys come here who post exactly what you did and when we eventually see their hair, they look like John F Kennedy Jr.

This is almost exactly what I've got going on...
http://www.gourmetstylewellness.com/photogallery/pgmartin.htm

However flip the baseline and one year photos. My hair has gone from Martin's 1 year results TO his baseline photo. So my regimen has taken me in reverse order(or the lack of it working has). I don't have any uploadable pics of myself but I can tell you thats EXACTLY what my head looks like before and after. Same hair line and everything although the patch in the front of my head is a lot thicker.

In regards to knowing how much hair I've lost...well one year ago(when I started treatment) I could NOT see my scalp whatsoever on the crown ,which I would certainly remember, but now I can see it plain as day. This is unfortunate for me because surgery is not an option because of price and moreso my age and stage of thinning. My only real option is to keep going on my current treatment. Shall I add something other than Nizoral? And I'd like an opinion on Dermatch...to maybe hide this until my regimen kicks in(assuming it ever does)

Also to the above poster, you are correct I have no side effects whatsoever or any type of discomfort, itching, etc.

I'm just shedding every 3 months like crazy but the hair is not returning. One thing I did notice about the first shed, it was moreso thick hairs that were falling out. This most recent shed is tiny, short, and thin hairs but A LOT of them and its becoming noticeable(to me anyway) on a daily basis how much thinner my crown is getting. I will attempt to post pictures if I can find some too upload.

is a great advice. if u read correctly, my hair did not improve after adding finasteride, it went from ok to looking like shiot, now that i have stop finasteride 1 month 1/2 after, my hair is growing back, no hair fall out, and i have never looked this good in years, AFTER BEEN OFF finasteride., just to keep it short, finasteride was making me bald, my advice is, try stopping finasteride for 2 month and see what happens. i'm having unbelievable results now, finasteride can be good for most people, but it can be really bad for other, i did not grow a single hair while on finasteride, and i shed for 1 year and 4 month. now my hair is growing REALLY FAST (frontal, temple, vertex). and i have no hair falling down. finally i can comb my hair, without seen 20 hairs in the comb. my hair became so weak while on finasteride, that i could pull any hair from any where and it WOULD COME OUT. i could pull from the side, from my eyeslashes, eyebrows, i new something was wrong but didn't know what it was. AGAIN, after STOPPING finasteride, all this went away, MY HAIR IS GROWING BACK, is much thicker. and i already stopped thinking about shaving my head. take my advice and get off finasteride for 2 month and see what happens.

If it's only been 1 and a half months off of finasteride, plenty of finasteride was still in your system for the most part of that time frame. It was proabablly finasteride finally kicking in for you and the sad thing is that in a few months, those improvements will go away. 1 and a half months is just too short a time to know what the hell is working. Obviously if you hair is that much better and thicker, the finasteride and everything helped produce vellous that changed to terminal hair.

lol if u read my post, u will know that 3 month on minoxidil 80% of my hair grew back, after addind finasteride i started to shed, for 1 YEAR AND 4 MONTH to the point that i was days away from shaving my head. now after stopping finasteride all side effect (including shedding) went away and now things are looking up to me.
i'm speaking from my personall experience but i see that's not enough for u guys, i guess this forum only like to post with bad result. i have notice that every post that have any indication of good result, aways banish. and in 3 month i'll prove to all of ya, that i was right, i hate guys in the forum acting like they know everything and giving advice without any experience of a similar situation.

it is logicall and not a coincidence that after 1 year and 4 month on finasteride my hair (especially frontal) became so bad and weak, that i was almost crying, then i decided to stop finasteride and continue minoxidil, in 2 weeks after the shed stop, from everywhere, and now 1 month and 1/2 my hair is looking noticeable thicker and growing all over the place.

well i guess my 3 month update will be enough to prove it.
